I chose a picture of the Amazon Rainforest because it is a perfect representation of the role in plants in society and the environment. The Amazon Rainforest provides support to the animals and native people that live there, along with providing support for the entire world. One way it supports the environment and society everyday is through its production of 20% of the world’s oxygen. In addition, the plants and trees that make up the rainforest provide a home to various species of animals, and both those animals and plants are sources of both food and medicine to the world.

I chose this video because not only did it explain photosynthesis, but it also noted the similarities in plants and humans in terms of photosynthesis and the process of acquiring energy for both. In the video, xylem transporting water (and other nutrients) up the stalk of the plant and bringing it to the site of photosynthesis, is related to people drinking through a straw to get proper water intake. It compares xylem in plants to veins in humans, in that they both are methods of transportation for water and nutrients in each organism. An additional comparison, was introducing the idea that leaves have pores just like skin does. For plants, the pores would be stomata, which aid in gas intake and release.

I decided to look for an angiosperm that was native to Georgia and found the hairy rattleweed, or Baptisia arachnifera. I chose this plant because it was an endangered plant that’s only found in two counties in the state, nowhere else. It also seemed to be the perfect fit because it’s listed as the June Native Plant of the month on the website I found and it’s June!

With increasing temperatures that come with the Earth’s changing climate as a result of global warming, the permafrost in Arctic regions is melting. Usually, it is just the permafrost in the southern regions of the Arctic that melt, however, global warming is causing the fall freeze to come later and more of that permafrost to melt. This allows vegetation, that previously wouldn't have been able to thrive, to take root, which could change the habitat native species to the area. It also allows animals that were previously found in other regions to migrate further north, creating competition for food and territory among the native animals and the newly migrated ones.

This chart is just a small example of the positive impact the Neolithic Revolution had on the human population. By transitioning into farming and no longer migrating to different areas to acquire food, Neolithic people were able to make more societal developments aside from just food production. Technological strides were made, government was developed, and job specialization were results of this domestication. Although it is much more developed today, the outcome of the Neolithic Revolution formed the backbone of many aspects of current day society.

I chose this picture because it provides a visual comparison between the older and newer versions of a plow. The Third Agricultural Revolution brought forth changes that would increase productivity while also minimize the about of work required by those who farmed. The use of the steam engine in the plow gave those using it the ability to perform their farming duties in a much more rapid and sufficient way.

THC, or Tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical compound found in marijuana that produces the “high”. I believe this THC one of the most influential chemicals used in the world because the plant it is derived from, the cannabis plant, is relevant in both the world of politics and for many people, in every day life. There has been much debate on whether to legalize and tax marijuana and there are tons of people who use it frequently, (some every day), for various reasons.

This picture shows the merging of a previously industrialized society and the environment after political, agricultural, social, etc. practices have no longer been regulated. The world is returning back to its original nature. I chose this picture because although it looks in slight disarray simply because there is no order to anything, it is also calming and beautiful because things look to be returning to their original rawness.
