Q1. Among the five essential values related to academic integrity, which one/ones do you feel is important to you and why?

For me, the most important value is fairness. Fairness ensures everyone is evaluated equally, fostering trust and respect. It promotes an environment where hard work is justly rewarded and discourages dishonesty, ensuring equal opportunities for success based on merit.

Q2. Do you think academic integrity should be practiced in the workplace as well as in our academic life? Give one example to show how academic integrity plays a crucial role in the workplace. (You might need to do some research on this topic. Remember to give appropriate citation).

Yes, academic integrity is essential in both academic and professional settings. For example, in financial reporting, maintaining integrity ensures transparency and accuracy. If an accountant falsifies financial statements, it can lead to legal repercussions and loss of trust, potentially causing the business to collapse (Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, 2023).

Q3. In the sections on Academic Dishonesty and Misrepresentation of Personal Performance are there any points you were not aware of before? What are they?

Yes, I was not fully aware of:

1. Collusion: Collaborating on individual assignments without permission is considered academic dishonesty.

2. Fabrication of Data: Altering or inventing data in research projects and assignments is a serious offense.

3. Self-Plagiarism: Submitting the same work for multiple courses without permission is considered self-plagiarism.

Q4. What is your responsibility as a student of Humber College to maintain academic integrity?

As a Humber College student, my responsibilities include:

1. Honesty: Submitting original work and giving proper credit.

2. Trust: Being reliable and dependable in my academic duties.

3. Fairness: Producing and evaluating work fairly, avoiding cheating or plagiarism.

4. Respect: Valuing others' contributions and intellectual property.

5. Responsibility: Owning my learning and understanding consequences of misconduct.

6. Courage: Making ethical decisions and speaking up against dishonesty.

Q.#3 Do you consider yourself to be a high or low context communicator? Explain why and give a few examples to illustrate your answer.

I believe my communication style is high context because I rely heavily on nonverbal cues and implicit messages. For example, during group projects in school, I often use gestures and facial expressions to communicate with my team. Instead of explicitly stating every detail, I rely on context and shared understanding. If I need a classmate to clarify a point, I might just raise my eyebrows or make eye contact, and they usually understand my need for further explanation. This approach reflects my preference for high-context communication, where much of the message is conveyed through nonverbal means and the surrounding context.
