It feels like a giant playground sometimes full of exploration. In this 1839 painting of what is now North Tce, the church can be seen with the peaked roof, looming in the background on the left. Why and how has the landscape of Adelaide been altered to suit the whims of the colonists. During my walk through the city, I thought about how rich the plains would have been, the clear water of the river, the abundance of fish and yabbies that would have been there, the idea of rolling land, red gums lining the water and the murmur of wind through the trees. I revel in the idea of how incredibly abundant this land would have been. What are the stories of this land? What existed here before? I didn't realise that the SA Museum had so many Aboriginal artefacts. I was also amazed at how many different varieties of spears there were and I hadn't seen a bark basket before.
