I chose Chapter 9, Film Festival. At the beginning of the chapter the teachers on the task force noticed the requisites were not in the current state standards for ELA. The members of the task force decided that having the students do a film festival at the end of the school year would help them tie in the appropriate standards for 8th grade. The students would learn to be a reader and a writer. Students would be able to learn all of the aspects of being a screenplay writer. The students would be able to read, write, film, and direct. They would be able to tie all of these things into one. They were unable to pull it off the first year but by the second year the teachers collaborated and had the students do it near the end of their 8th grade year. This would help prepare them more for high school. The two teachers collaborated and taught one part of the assignment then they would have the classes switch so they would get more information in in a day. The teachers had to work backwards to make sure they were able to set appropriate deadlines. They were able to set goals and objectives. The students were able to do their film festival at the end of the year.

Additional Instructional Strategy

An instructional strategy I would also use would be the KWL chart. This is a great tool to see what the students know, what they want to know and what they learned. This way students are also able to stay on track with a task when they are being reminded what they are learning. Teachers can make sure they are teaching the students in a way that they will be able to understand and follow the material being taught.
