         <description><![CDATA[<div>1The smallest bones are the ossicles in the middle ear: the <em>incus</em>, the <em>malleus</em>, and the <em>stapes</em> (also called the anvil, hammer, and stirrup). </div><div>2The inner ear is no larger than a pencil eraser in circumference. </div><div>3Your sense of hearing is dependent upon tiny hairs deep inside your ear. If you lose these hairs, you lose your hearing. </div><div>4You do not need to clean wax out of your ears unless you have an abnormal condition. Ears push excess wax out as needed. </div><div>5The majority of individuals suffering from <a href="http://www.hearingaids.com/about-hearing-loss/hearing-loss/">hearing loss</a> are under the age of 65. </div><div>6The number one cause of hearing loss is exposure to excessively loud sounds (85 decibels or higher). </div><div>7Your hearing can be damaged permanently even after a single incident of exposure to extremely loud noise (shotgun blast, explosion, etc.). </div><div>8Your ears never stop hearing, even when you sleep. Your brain just ignores incoming sounds. </div><div>9Your ears are more than just necessary for hearing; they also help you keep your balance. </div><div>10Not all living creatures hear with ears. Snakes use jawbones, fish respond to pressure changes, and male mosquitoes use antennae.</div>]]></description>

Sound waves are reflected and attenuated when they hit the pinna, and these changes provide additional information that will help the brain determine the direction from which the sounds came.<br><br></div>]]></description>

Some of these are serious, some are not serious.</div><div><a href="http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/ear-infection/understanding-otitis-media-basics">Otitis media</a> (middle ear inflammation): Inflammation or infection of the middle ear (behind the eardrum). Usually, this is caused by an infection.</div><div><a href="http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/ear-infection/understanding-swimmer-ear-basics">Swimmer’s ear</a> (Otitis externa): Inflammation or infection of the outer ear (pinna and ear canal).          <description><![CDATA[<div>Our ears help us detect sound.<br><br></div><div>Ears convert sound waves into nerve impulses that are sent to the brain.</div><div>While your ears pick up the sound, it is your brain that does the hard work of making sense of it all.</div><div>There is much more to the ear than the part you can see on the outside of your head.</div><div>The middle part of the ear (behind the ear drum) amplifies sound pressure.</div><div>The middle ear also contains the Eustachian tube which helps equalize pressure and drain mucus.</div><div>Ear infections are more common in children because of their developing immune systems and differences between their Eustachian tubes and those of adults.</div><div>The inner ear is found inside the temporal bone, the hardest bone in the human body.</div><div>The inner ear contains the spiral shaped hearing organ called the cochlea as well as the vestibule and semicircular canals which help with balance.</div><div>Sounds waves are passed from air to liquid in the inner air. The inner air also contains tiny hair cells which react to sound waves, triggering chemicals that are sent to the brain as nerve impulses.</div><div>Abnormalities in the inner ear of humans can cause deafness.</div><div>Skin glands in the ear canal produce ear wax which helps protect the ear by lubricating it and cleaning it of dirt and dust.</div><div>Excessive ear wax can impair hearing, especially if it is pressed hard against the eardrum.</div><div>Ear wax normally comes out of your ear naturally so it’s not a good idea to try and remove it yourself unless it is causing health problems (best to see your doctor first).</div><div>Piercing earlobes and ornamenting them with jewellery has been common practice around the world for thousands of years for both for cultural and cosmetic reasons</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Once the sound waves travel into the <strong>ear canal</strong>, they vibrate the <strong>tympanic membrane</strong>, commonly called the <strong>eardrum</strong>. The eardrum is a thin, cone-shaped piece of skin, about 10 millimeters (0.4 inches) wide. It is positioned between the ear canal and the <strong>middle ear</strong>. The middle ear is connected to the throat via the <strong>eustachian tube</strong>. Since air from the atmosphere flows in from your outer ear as well as your mouth, the air pressure on both sides of the eardrum remains equal.
