The strategies I use with adolescents are observation and leaving doors open so that students can express themselves and have the confidence to express their emotions. We also practice the training of student mediators, i.e., the guidance department trains students so that they can provide help and support to their peers who need it. This is a first step to provide more help to students who require it.

As a teacher who works with children with autism, severe mental deficiency, and Down syndrome, it is important to be vigilant in monitoring students for signs of emotional, social, and behavioral difficulties. Some signs that may indicate a student is at risk include frequent outbursts of anger or frustration, withdrawal from social interactions, difficulty following rules or instructions, and frequent physical aggression towards others. These signs can vary depending on the individual's specific needs and abilities.

To monitor students more effectively, it is essential to establish strong communication with parents and other support staff. Regular check-ins and updates can help identify any emerging issues and provide opportunities for intervention. Additionally, keeping detailed records of behavior patterns and changes over time can help identify patterns and trends that may indicate a need for additional support.

In my classroom, I utilize universal strategies to support all students' emotional, social, and behavioral needs. This includes creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment, where every student feels valued and respected. I implement visual schedules and routines to help students understand expectations and reduce anxiety. I also use positive reinforcement and praise to encourage positive behavior and build self-esteem. Additionally, I provide individualized support for students who may require additional assistance, such as implementing sensory breaks or accommodations for communication difficulties.
