The date of his conception is unknown. Taft's family wasn't particularly wealthy. He wasn't necessarily a brilliant child but he was known by many as a hard worker. He attended Woodward High School. He later went to Yale College where he participated on the wrestling team and graduated 2nd in his class. His Vice President was James S. Sherman. He represented the Democratic party. One important event that occurred during Taft's presidency was the passage of the 16th amendment on 07/12/1909. This amendment stated that Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration. Previously, the federal government used tariffs to collect income, but many believed this was unfair to the poor.
