Humans modify and depend on the land because they need to protect themselves from nature such as weather. We have created a lot of ways to protect low elevated areas from flooding such as levees, dikes, seawalls, canals, and pumps. But sometimes these things do not work such as Hurricane Katrina. The reason why these things don't work is because they are too expensive to create. I know this because most of the victims were primarily poor showing that low income areas could not afford to place these things in to protect themselves.

First, don't foget to date your posts. Second, good use of evidence from the reading. Can you define what it means to "modify" the land? Can you explain the difference between "modifying" and "adapting"? - Mr. D

First of all, what doesd it mean to modify, depend, and adapt to the land? Modify means to physically change the environment such as building a bridge over a river. Depend means that you need something from the environment that you depend on. Adapt means to get used to living in that environment. An example of of modifying land is to build a dam to stop the flowing of water in an area. An example of depending on an environment is that there might be a food source in that environment or a water source. An example of adapting to an environment is to building dikes or levees because it's easier for your area to flood because the environment has a low elevation.

The definition of sustainability is Sustainability is very important to economic growth. Environmental protection, economic growth, and social equity are all combined because developing the economy reduces poverty which could also be a big threat to not having enough resources in the future. "A rising level of economic development generates increased pollution." When poverty reduces, this means that more people will have ''more money'' and they can spend that money on more things create pollution. When you're in poverty, you are very limited to what you can buy and what you can't buy. China generates the most pollution. Out of 20 of the most populated cities in the world, China has 16 of those cities.

It is unclear form this post if you know the definition of sustainability. Also, it is unclear how sustainability and population are related. - Mr. D

A population pyramid is a graph that shows amount of males and females at each age. It measures in millions and it goes by every four years. Population pyramids can be affected many factors, such as industrialization, natural disasters, and many more. The reason why industrialization is a big factor is because gives people more jobs and then people move to more urban areas. Moving to more populated cities gives you less room to maybe start a family. That's why there are more families outside of major cities. Natural disasters are big factors because this can kill a lot of people and can force people to move to different places.

What are the parts that make up a pop pyramid (it is these they help to draw the conclusions you made in your post). -- Mr. D

The stages of population is probably one of the biggest ways to describe a country. The stages show what the population looks like and how it will look in the future for that country. Each stage shows what the positives and the negatives are for what stage the country is at. For example, the US is a stage 4 because the birth rate is lower so the population is stable. This shows that women have bigger roles in the economy instead of just being there for reproducing. Since the death rate is lower, that means the US has high quality health care and have reliable food supplies.

Good connect made (US = Stage 4 and why). What do the other stages look like? -- Mr. D

This is why the top countries have such a big population because that's where everyone wants to live. This means the average amount of money people are making. Another one is life expectancy. This means the average life span of people in this country. Literacy Rate shows the percentage of the population that can read fluently. When the literacy rate is lower, that means education in that country is harder to get. The population growth is also one. The last one is access to water. This shows the percentage of the population that have access to water.

There is a big difference between a developing and developed country. A developing country usually has a bigger population growth rate. I say this because a non-developed country is usually small. Developing is between that. Also, developing countries usually don't have a very high GDP like Country B. Country B doesn't have a big GDP like country C and D. A developed country has a long life expectancy. Also, a country has a very high access to water. Finally, usually developed countries are the countries that people migrate to. I say that because those countries are one of the highest in all of the key economic indicators.

A democracy has a lot of characteristics. One of them is that the people have a say in what the government does. Also, people actually have rights unlike a dictatorship. There are two groups that promote their beliefs to the country and people get to vote on who they believe in. A dictatorship is more strict. In a dictatorship, the government has more power. It's also one man that leads everything. If people try to disobey their laws that they created, they will be severely punished. Which means that they make their own laws and what the government believes in, the population is forced to follow them whether they want to or not.

There are a lot of reasons why society changes. One of them could be the climate. The climate can make the environment tougher and drive out animals which can affect food sources and it just keeps on going. The government can change the society by creating new laws, forcing people to study one religion, or the type of government become a dictatorship. The final reason is new technology. New technology provides us with new ways to making our lives easier so we all might be able to do something differently than we were before. It also helps us learn more about the environment that the society lives in which helps us adapt to the environment.
