I always had this picture of UCB always being inclusive and one that welcomes ethnic studies with open arms but it just shows the real intentions of the time were for the admins. To have the explanation of RADICAL Asian-American studies be argued as a more inclusive way to think of all Asian-American identities in one. To know the histories and foundations of Asian-American, the term, and the causes that lead up to it being so significant was interesting. especially because my knowledge and histories of Asian-American studies is so broad and not in depth. Question such as how do we help develop community leaders, activists, and those dedicated to the cause of social justice for the benefit of their communities. What can I do as a teacher to show my students that there are wrongs in their communities and we must be aware of these wrongs for the greater good. How to integrate civic praxis where students are given the opportunities and resources to make change in the communities reside. But one thing as to be clear the change has to be made by those who reside within the community and not outside since they do not know what struggles, oppression, and injustices the population face. They way I would integrate a cap stone for a 3rd grade class is first talk and point out something things that they don't feel right about. Things that they notice that makes them feel uncomfortable or left out. Recognize those issues and tie in into the grand scheme of social justice and then invite students to further elaborate why they get these feelings and what is something they're thinking of doing to change it.
