Freeview has around 11 million customers. 
Freeview is so successful because most of time it is free so it makes it more successful.

The technology needed would be an aerial (when it is built into the TV), and if people don't have an aerial then they get a freeview box. 
The platforms are; TV's, online catch up etc. 
Freeview have recently brought out a new hd recorder, to re-watch shows.
Because you don't have to pay for Freeview, they don't have any rivals.

BT uses the platforms of digital TV and computers and app stores to stream their services. There rivals are Sky and Virgin.
