"Metacognition is thinking about how you think and learn. The key to metacognition is asking yourself self-reflective questions, which are powerful because they allow us to take inventory of where we currently are, how we learn, and where we want to be.

Prompt: Reflect on a recent learning experience. How did you assess what you already knew, and how could metacognition have helped you better plan your approach to learning new material?

During my senior year of highschool, I had a economics class that I was struggling in to understand the topic. I wish I knew how to ask better questions to myself and to my teacher because I can get very confused at times. Now, I plan to ask questions on new information that I am lost about.

I took an economics class where we learned how to deal with money the right way. Before I took this class I was not good with saving money and this class thought me how to do it in a way that worked best for me. Metacognition could've helped me understand the material better.

During highschool, I had a British literature class that I took. Usually when I had a test, I would procrastinate and barely study for the test the night before. I would say that something that would’ve helped me is that I could’ve had a schedule. I probably could’ve studied like a week or a few days in advance before the test so that I would remember the material better.

The strategies I use to learn are taking notes ahead, try to understand them in order for me to even remember it in the future too. Basically I keep revising what I studied. So if I combine those strategies and metacognition I feel like it would boost my learning more.

I struggle with retaining a lot of information at once, and in high school studying for multiple test were hard so I always had to try different methods. I believe if I use metacognition as well as the new tactic I have for studying text will be a lot easier in college.
