The median set age of when individuals begin having S.A.D. is between the ages of 8 and 15 years. It sometimes emerges out of a childhood history of social inhibition or shyness in the US and European studies. It may be insidious and develop very slowly from experiences that you go through as a child. -- However, the first onset in adulthood is relatively rare and is more likely to occur after a stressful or humiliating event or after life changes that require new social roles. Social Anxiety may diminish under certain situations if they become resolved (when the SA occurs first as an adult). No one is born with SA; it’s gained overtime with trauma and personal experiences.
