The first initial involvement for this film was the production meeting that took place to ensure that we understood the Script, knew what roles everyone had and what the schedule would look like for the upcoming film. The first key takeaway from this meeting was understanding who I would need to be working with specifically to make sure that I was able to fully prepare myself for filming. In this case, I was partnered with Jude as we both had the same set of roles and so as you can see, we decided to sit together which meant we were discussing our ideas of what we need to do. From this meeting, we found that we would need to speak to Ben as well who was on the Camera to make sure that we could equally place roles that we were individually responsible for. Hence towards the later stages of the day, we decided to work out who would be booking out the Equipment, how we should prepare ourselves ready for filming and then what we could do differently from the Video Project last year.

Now one of the things that my group did was ensure that we were constantly communicating within our departments. I felt that the Camera and Lighting teams chat really helped me to understand what was required within my role. In addition to being present at Uni, I understood how there was work I needed to complete outside to contribute and boost the quality of the production. The teams chat made sure that we were constantly communicating with the Director and 1st A.D. as throughout this week, they were working on developing the script more and the visual aspect of the film and so this constant communication allowed me to understand what additionally I needed to do to help with my role. The updated Script was constantly put on this chat and so I took it upon myself to understand what the developments were and how that can correlate to my role. The main way in which I did this was from breaking down the Shot List. I have attached the 'Shot List' beside this that breaks down all of the shots that we thought to be used for filming. As I also have to work with the Camera, I took responsibility in carrying out the Shot list breakdown so that all of the work is split evenly.

13th November - Sound Equipment Booking

Following discussions with Ben and Jude, we decided that we would split the booking of Equipment into one person being in charge of one of the departments. I was in charge of booking out the Sound Equipment for this production. I felt that from my knowledge of last year's equipment, I would be able to do this. We all collaboratively went through each of the departments equipment to make sure that there wasn’t anything missing that would be handy on set. For sound, we found that the main source of equipment that we would be using is the Boom Microphones where we could get close to the subject of the sound a lot easier than we do with the Rode Microphones. This decision was made following last years Sound being mainly sourced from the Rode Wireless Mics which provided a variety of issues such as the connectivity with the recorder and additional sounds such as 'buzzes' and 'clicks' that were affected the quality of the sound. One of the main issues that we found was that we really wanted to have clear audio however the Rode Microphones were required to be hidden away under the characters costumes. This provided one of the issues because the costume were interfering with the quality of the sound and so we decided that the best option for this year was that we are going to use two sets of the Boom Mics that would provide less restrictions to the quality of audio. I felt that the decision on this was a key one as myself and Jude were able to understand what our role would be on set day-by-day. We came to the conclusion that we would mix up who would be recording the sound on each day which meant that one would be using the Boom Mic's to record the sound whilst the other would be making sure that they are keeping up with the continuity of lighting for the scene as well as helping out with anything to do with the Camera. As you can see from the Equipment list above, we did also decide to book out the Rode Wireless Microphones as well because we felt that, if needed, it would mean that we could have two different pieces of recording equipment on hand if anything was to go wrong.

14th November - Filming Rehearsal

This day was used to maintain my understanding of what was required for each of the scenes. As you can see from the image above, I was involved in the Filming rehearsal where the Director was going through each individual scene talking through the shots that she would like. In the several days that we did this, myself and Jude decided to make it that on one day, I would work on the paperwork and he would help out with the rehearsal and then on another day it would be Vice-Versa. I felt that this worked well because we were able to understand what the vision of the film was but also maintaining the equal level of responsibility required for our roles in terms of the Pre-production. On this day, I was involved in going through each shot required in the different scene's and how that can then work around the Lighting and Sound that we were also involved in. Myself and Jude knew that Ben would be in control of the Camera during the filming days and so we felt that from a Camera point of view, we would like to help out when we could but he would be the person in charge of capturing the visual side of the film. This day was a key day in developing the Pre-production stage of the film because the team was developing their understanding of what they wanted from the film and so I felt that I could contribute to how the film could be further developed. From the Lighting side of things, I found that one of the scene's that we looked at would be a tricky one to create lighting with it being a small space. However, I think that the creative freedom of learning how to adjust on the day of filming could be something that I can learn more of during the filming process. From my research I developed the understanding about how 'the elements of cinematic form that Directors harness to tell their stories are contained within four broad areas: visual design, sound design, performance style and editorial style' and so I felt that this links to the work and role that I have within this production because I feel that two of those areas are ones that I am contributing in. The visual design of the film would be from the collaboration of the shots used to portray the scene as well as how that scene is lit and what that can suggest to a viewer. Taking part in the Rehearsal process, from helping with the Dolly track or helping to record the footage, meant that our visual knowledge of the film was further developed which meant that I feel much more prepared when it comes to the filming process. As well as the Visual side of the production, the sound design of the film is another responsibility that I have and so from the rehearsals, we were able to think about how there could be additional sounds recorded that could further push the production. An example of this is the use of foley which could be used to replicate the movement of the characters as that may make a viewer feel more involved within the scene because the sound design provides a more immersive experience.

This was the final day of Pre-production and so the main purpose of this day was to make sure that I had everything together that then fully prepared me for the filming process. There was still finalising that I needed to do on this day such as filling in the Sound and Lighting equipment on the Breakdown sheet as well as discussing more of what lighting would be used for each scene. Jude was mainly used to help out with the filming rehearsal and so I decided to make sure that we were fully ready for the first day of filming. The schedule stated how the scene's that were going to be filmed on the first day were going to be in the House but in two separate rooms. This meant that from a Sound point of view, we were making sure that we knew what else would be required of us in addition to capturing the audio used within the scene. With the Lighting, we had a clear idea and base that we are going to work off during the filming process, where we don't want to set a specific place where each piece of lighting will go but at least know what piece of lighting will be used for each of the scene's. As well, I took it upon myself to book out the ADR Studios which was one of the last production days. This was following communication with the production team members as well as my understanding of the script because there was several areas that featured dialogue that would either be done Off-screen or used as a Voice-Over. I felt that doing this after the filming days would be key so that the cast members had a better understanding of their characters which will be clear within the audio side.

This day was an important day to ensure that we finalised all the bits of dialogue that were missing from the Script. I booked out the equipment and studio for this day and so I wanted to make sure that everything went smoothly. I decided that as a Backup for this day, I would use my laptop and keep the equipment on hand in case we were unable to use any of the equipment available in the Voice Acting studio. This day was used to record all of the Off-screen dialogue from the characters that had lines stated that way. Now one of the main issues that we faced from this day was that myself and Jude set up the Microphone that was plugged in through the box, however there was no connection being made with the Red programme. We set up two microphones as there were a couple of dialogue areas where to maintain the tempo of the scene, we felt that it was best to be recorded together. One of the New Adelphi staff members came in to help us to explain that there was a slight issue that they managed to help us out with and so the rest of the recording went smoothly. My role in this was to work with the Director for when they wanted me to start recording as well listen back to the recording to make sure that everything was running smoothly. Having used Adobe Audition before, I felt that I was able to work efficiently in recording the sound and ensuring that the Director was happy with what the sound was like through the Microphones. Jude was working around the Microphone to ensure that we could provide the best possible sound and we did various sound checks to make sure that we were in line with how the Microphone could be used best. In addition, I made sure that during the rehearsal of the dialogue that the db level of the audio was under control. This meant that for each of the pieces of dialogue, I was manually adjusting the level to fit with where their dialogue would peak the most.

This was the first day of filming where there was a big focus on the Lighting as this is where we could begin to fully understand the visual aspect of the film. As planned we used the Three Point Lighting to structure the lighting plan around. The first setting that we were filming in was the Living Room and so the only challenge from external lighting was the outside door that provided a light through the blinds. This issue was not important as it was not visible within the shot. For this specific scene, the visual side wanted to focus on the minimal use of shadows but have colours that would be regarded as unnatural for a scene in this setting. Myself and Jude were playing around with the Rayzr lights to see which Hue, Saturation and DIM was right for what the Director wanted. Blue's were a key colour that was used in the Moodboard for the film and so this is what we used to work off with the Lighting in this scene. One of the creative ideas that we had with the lighting was that we used the lights to bounce off the wall and so instead of having the subject fully lit, we looked at how the lights could both create a dimension for the background as well as the subject. This may differ to the technique seen within Three Point Lighting, however we still used equipment such as the Apertures that provided enough exposure to show what the subject is doing in the scene. One of the main things that I made sure to do was shout "Lights On" when we were turning the lights back on just to make sure that that all of the production team were aware that we were turning the lights back on. We did this to ensure that we were maintaining the battery for the lights.

The sound for this day was not as important as the other filming days. The main focus that myself and Jude placed on this day was on the Lighting because we knew that there were other days that we would be filming in these days and so we wanted to make sure that we were keeping up with the continuity of the scene by taking pictures of the settings used for each light. In terms of the Sound, we firstly were filming the dialogue between Tracy and Margot and then the following takes were a few movement shots. There was not really any additional sound that was required for this day however one of the challenges that I faced for this day was to place the Boom Mic close enough to where the characters were speaking but not coming up on the Camera. This was a struggle because of where we had the Lighting and so I had to avoid the Boom pole showing up on the Camera through the use of Shadows. I made sure that I was constantly asking if I was in shot to make sure that I could get a good quality of sound but also avoid any issues for the editing team.

This was one of the days off that we had and so I felt that it would be essential to start sorting out and reviewing the audio from the scene's that we have recorded. I felt that this would provide several positives that could further boost the filming process. I decided to organise the Sound into the scene's and takes that they were from. As you can see from Day 1, there was multiple scene's filmed on that day and so I felt that organising the Sound files would help the Editors during the few weeks that they had to edit. This means that it speeds up their editing process as they were easily be able to find the audio that they need to sync up to the footage.

The Lighting for Day 3 was a mix as we filmed some shots that were indoors and then some shots that were filmed outdoors. We were very happy that we were able to book out the reflector for the Park scene as it provided a nice glow on the face of the two characters. This bounce off the sun meant that we could maintain that warm atmosphere and feel that we created in the scene where Margot is in her room. We felt that the direction in which the sun was coming from and the angle that the light came onto the faces of the two characters enhanced the feel to how the scene should look. The other scene that was filmed on this day was in the Living room where we can see Margot watching the TV. The main challenge for this was recreating the lighting that was used for the Living room scene before. This was correctly done as we took photos of the settings and placement of the Rayzr Lighting. We found how the blue theme that was used in the living room scene really provides a good contrast to when the warmer colours are used and so myself and Jude looked at how that contrast could work using Three Point Lighting.

I continued to work on the Sound review for this day as it would have been a key day in which there could be external factors that may affect the audio. This would have been from the previous week's filming where we were outside in a park where the Sound may have slightly been affected. I felt that taking breaks to review the sound throughout the filming process was key because we were able to think about whether we are not getting close enough or if we can turn up the db level more to provide a more clear piece of audio.

The Lighting for the Podiatry clinic was fairly simple as we felt that the natural lighting already in the setting was similar to what visually the scene should look like. So in addition to this, we decided to have just 2 of the Rayzor lights set up that would make sure that the subject is fully lit up and apparent on the Camera. As you can see from the Rayzor light that is above Jude's head, we decided to go for white lighting that matched the tone and feel to the setting already. However, one of the issues that we found with the Lighting for this filming day was when the two other characters come in. With the visual aspect of the scene changing when they enter, it was different to recreate it with so much light already being placed within the scene. The two characters involved within the scene are from Margot's hallucinations and so that is where the use of the Quasar and the Aperture lights come in. The issue that we were having was that we were placing the colours on to the subjects faces and creating the constant but when the continuity lighting was going on, that was totally being wiped out. I think that myself and Jude should have potentially checked out this location first to see what obstacles would come out way and how we could overcome them. As a group, we looked at where each light sourced could move or change which then visually look correct when the two characters came in.

This was the final day where we were filming at the house and so the majority of the lighting work that we had done previously would be helpful for this. We continued to use the Lupo Daylight because it provided a nice feel to the subject and the background. The first shot that was being filmed was of Margot moving her Jewellery and so the apertures were being used to create the purple/blue feel that we've had throughout the film. The difference in lighting for this was that we maintained the purple lighting within the room to make it bounce off the walls and ceiling. This meant that it wasn't the subject that was being specifically lit but the surroundings that would contribute to Margot being lit. There were also other scenes that were filmed on this day and so the Quasar light came back into play as we wanted to use the Red lighting that was quite harsh to be peering through the door when the Camera was walking through.

For this specific day, I mainly was on Sound and as there was several areas of the House that were used on this day, I felt that it was going to be good to log the Sound which would make it easier to sort through in a future day. This day saw us filming us filming in the Living Room and the Kitchen and so following the Sound breakdown sheet, I made sure that we were able to get the ambience in addition to recording the dialogue required for the scene. We were using the Boom Microphones to record the sound for this day which meant that my role was to make sure that I was getting the closest I could to the audio. As you can see from the image above, we had a scene where a character would be knocking on the door and then saying small piece of dialogue. One of the challenges that we faced was finding a way of using the Boom Mic to record the sound but also not be in the Camera shot. The Boom Pole played a key role in making sure that this worked and so I made sure to rap the wire around the pole which would mean that we wouldn't have any exterior noise that may affect the overall quality of the sound. The dead cat also helped with the recording because one of the main issues that could have happened with the audio for this was the wind and the cars that were nearby the busy road. This piece of equipment reduced that and it meant that I took responsibility in listening back to the audio to make sure that it was clear as to what that character has said.

The locations that were used for this filming day were still in the house, however it was the Bedroom and the Kitchen that would be used. The first aspect of this filming day was that they wanted the feel to be natural in the scene where Margot is in her room. This meant that we did look to use Three Point Lighting but instead using the Lupo that would provide the feel of Daylight in the room. This provided the key light for the scene because the Director wanted a warm feel to the scene that wasn't warm enough that it was orange but still one that resembles a difference to when one of the characters enters from Margot's hallucinations. This portrays how we used the Lupo and Rayzr light to follow the Three Point Lighting technique because we were then able to add additional light that was used for the character of Tracy. Jude was on lighting for the first part of the day and so we decided to use the Apertures that would bounce off the character of Tracy. This would create the contrast that the Director wanted because it would differ from the warm feel that we had when it was just Margot on her own. The two Apertures that we used for this had one colour being Purple and the other being orange. This was done as we felt that the two different sides of Tracy's face being different helped to create the impression of it being a hallucination. The Rayzr lights within this scene were used to add depth to the scene by bouncing them off the walls. In addition to filming in the Bedroom, we filmed the Nightmare scene and so this was where we felt that the Quasar light was key for this. The clear idea for this was red lighting that was very harsh on the subject. The Quasar did this and so we used that alongside one of the Rayzr lights to create the Nightmare/Scary feel. The apertures were also used for this to provide a further light on the character of Alex when he opens the Fridge.

11th November - Script Breakdown (Sound)

As you can see from the image above, I decided to focus on the Script to carry out my Sound work. The main way that I wanted to understand my role on Sound was by breaking down all aspects of Sound that was required for this film. There are several components of sound that are required for this sound. The key sound aspects of the film were the Dialogue which were going to be produced both on set and in a recording studio. One of the first things that I discovered from this script was that we would be required to record some of the dialogue in an ADR Studio. For example from Scene 1, all of the Sound required for the scene would be recorded elsewhere. I felt that the breakdown of the Script contributed to my understanding quite well because I felt prepared to record the sound through breaking it all down scene-by-scene. Another example of where I managed to analyse sound for the film was in Scene 4 where the main use of Sound is the dialogue between Margot and Alex but having divided all of the sound in the script, I have found how we may want to use Foley and SFX mixed with the room ambience to further develop the scene.

Throughout this week I have working away with the Shot List. With my role being both Lighting and Camera, I felt that it would be helpful to create a document that broke up each individual shot for the scene's which may then help the shooting schedule to be prepared. As you can see from the image above, I decided to add notes to each of the scene which meant that all members of the production team could understand what each of the individual shots would show. Scene 4 had quite a number of shots that would be both short and long where the main focus was capturing the dialogue. I felt that from working on the Shot List, I was then able to also look and plan where the lighting and sound would be for each individual shot. An example of this would be for the opening shot of Scene 4 where we see Margot on the sofa. The main source of sound from this would be Margot's movement and then the dialogue that followed which I developed the understanding that it could be captured from the Boom mic. And then from a Lighting point of view, 2 sets of the Rayzr lights could be enough to light the scene which we will further develop through discussions with the Director.

13th November - Equipment Research

One of the main ways in which I wanted to use this Pre-Production stage was by learning from the mistakes that I made in 2nd Year Video Project. There was a number of challenges faced and mistakes made on my behalf during last year's filming and so I felt that doing further research on both Sound and Lighting was going to enable me to learn where I can improve this time around. I felt that it was important to further learn about the equipment available to us for this production and how I can ensure that I am fully prepared to use this. One of the main sources of equipment that I will be using on set for the Sound is the F8 which will be the control box to ensure I am recording. In order to learn from my mistakes from last time, I have decided to use this YouTube video as part of my research. From this video I found more out about using the F8 which then meant that I learnt where I went wrong from last year. In the video, it mentions about all the different channels that can be used to record the sound but one of the main things that I didn't do from last year was change Channel 1 from Line to Mic. Channel 1 was the main channel I would be using to record the sound from the Boom Mic and so being able to understand this meant that I would be able to record clear and precise audio. This would also mean that when I turn on Phantom power, all I would need to do is work on the Audio levels to see how I can level the audio for each shot. I felt that this research will really make a different when recording the audio this year as I felt I have become accustomed to how the F8 works and how that differs to other recording devices like the H5. In addition to this learning from my mistakes from last year, I found that Chapter 3 of 'Sound for Film and Television' (Holman. 2010) really broke down the fundamentals of Sound and the key details that need to be understood when making Sound for film. These key elements that I discovered was the difference between Analogue and Digital as well as how we can further look into the levels of the audio that help to produce the best possible outcome for the Sound. From this research I found out about how 'Measurements can quickly tell if certain factors are optimum in a given piece of equipment and whether problems found are likely to be above or below audibility' (Holman, 2010) which I felt related a lot to how I could further improve my work on Sound as I could focus more in depth on the levels of each of the audio to ensure I could get around the optimum level. Upon reflection of my work from last year, I found that I would set the db level a little bit too low to capture the audio out of fear that it would peak. However the opposite occurred where the audio was just too low and so the editing team would struggle with having a clear and precise recording of the dialogue or sound recorded. This meant that I have developed the understanding of how I could test the audio for each scene during the preparation on set. I will test the audio before shooting by having the characters say their dialogue and see how I can find a control to the audio that is both below the peak point of recording but clear for the editing team to work with.

In addition to the Sound, I felt that it would be suitable to further research the lighting for this film in which I would be able to use the Mood board to then think about where we can have the lighting as well as what equipment we should book out. The difference made for this was that I felt I had a better understanding of Sound than Lighting and so this meant that during the constant discussions about the departments within the film, I was constantly learning what I would be required to do. Now one of the main techniques that I discovered for lighting a film scene was Three Point Lighting and how we could begin to work with how we could use this technique in accordance to what the Director wanted the scene to look like. From using the Script Breakdown and the Shot List, I found that the majority of the scenes were filmed within the house whether that be the Living Room, Bedroom or Kitchen and so from a Lighting point of view, I felt that this technique of using Three Point lighting could be a good structure to start out work off of. The main purpose of how lighting will be significant in this film was how it can portray a different dynamic within each scene from how they differ between when Margot is on her own compared to when she is having her hallucinations. Through researching this technique I found that 'the lighting setup helps bring dimension to characters' (MasterClass, 2021) which really interested me for this film because I felt that we had quite a lot of creative freedom for how we could portray all of the characters in this film. The dimension that we have discussed is how the character of Margot is not always going to be lit as clearly as it could be for the Camera. We felt that creatively doing this elaborates how we don't want the viewer to immediately feel connected to the character of Margot so instead showing how there is more to unfold about her later on in the film could also be correlated through the use of Lighting. As well as this, we looked at how the lighting could be used to represent the characters that are in Margot's hallucinations. This links to how Lighting can add a dimension to a character because we evaluated how the use of unnatural specific colours could be used for each of the characters involved within the scene.

One of the key pieces of paperwork that I felt would help both myself and others on the production team was the use of a Sound breakdown sheet. This is where I would look at what each days filming schedule would be and how my role on Sound would need to be carried out so that I am performing at the best of my ability. I felt that having this before the filming process was key to feeling fully prepared when it came to the Sound within the scene. One of the challenges that we would have faced for the Sound was that a lot of the scene's were filmed in the same house and so we wanted to move all the focus onto the Lighting and maintaining the continuity within each scene which puts a backwards focus on Sound. However from doing the Sound Breakdown sheet, I was able to discuss with the 1st A.D. how the use of additional Sound could be recorded on the filming day. An example of this would be for the opening scene that is going to be filmed on the first day of filming. This would be Scene 12 where we have the dialogue between Tracy and Margot and so in addition to capturing the dialogue between the characters, we want to make sure that we are able to capture the ambience/room tone of the scene and any key movement that they may want recording separately.

14th November - Floor Plan work

From the Floor Plan that Ben did for the visual ideas, I was able to start analysing where we would be able to use the lighting for the scene as well as how we would be able to record the sound. The rehearsals that took place during the Pre-Production really helped with mine and Jude's understanding of what the scene would look like and where we would need to place our lighting. But what we found was that from the Floor plan, we would be able to look at where we could use Three-point lighting and how that can contribute to how we wanted the film to look. The key aspect for this was looking at how we could maintain the continuity between the shots to make sure that the subject was lit the same. One of the key examples that we used this predominantly was in the scene where Margot is sat watching the TV because there was aspects of that where there is different angles of Margot and so we decided to look at how we could create the feel of the scene from the lighting as well add the lighting from the TV. The floor plan really helped us with this as we were able to evaluate how we could probably only use two C-Stands in this scene due to it being a tight space but then also looking at using the Apertures that could be featured to provide a reflection on Margot that makes it look like it’s coming from the TV. The other key point about using the floor plans were that for the script, there were scenes where it’s placed in the same setting but with the characters require a slight change in lighting. Having had discussions with the Director, we felt that the use of the Apertures and the Quasar could help to portray this as the lighting change for these shots would have been a lot more obvious with a specific colour. We used the floor plans for this to look at how we can maintain the base lighting of the scene from the Lupo Lighting with the additional Aperture and Quasar lighting required for the scene.

Another responsibility that I took on was homing some of the Equipment to ensure that it was fully charged and available on each of the filming days. I felt that this meant that there was a clear balance of responsibility for who was in control of the equipment. I decided to keep all of the Sound equipment so that I could ensure that it was all working ahead of the filming day on Monday. I went through all of the Boom and Rode Mic's to make sure that there wasn't any issues or obstacles that could occur. I felt that this did make me feel fully prepared for filming because I was able to work on how I was recording the audio differently this year and how the research I have done could be carried out correctly from myself. An example of this was testing out the levels on the F8 and how I could control them and how I could make sure that there were no issues that could have come up when it came to recording. In addition to the Sound equipment, I took it upon myself to charge the Lighting equipment as well because I felt that this was part of my role to make sure that the Lights were fully charged and ready for each days filming.

To also develop my knowledge on Lighting, I wanted to think about what were the key pieces of equipment that would need to be used on set. I found that how Three Point Lighting creates the 'foundations for all other light placement' (Aputure, 2020) which further embedded the reasoning behind using this technique for our lighting on set. I felt that this then helped us to decide on which pieces of Lighting equipment to use because we were able to detail which piece of equipment would be suitable for what aspect of lighting we would need. Myself and Jude decided that it would be best to look into using the Rayzr lights as the main source of lighting for the film. We were able to see how that could be used as the 'Key Light' and as the 'Fill Light' as well. One of the main reasonings for this which was developed from my understanding of this video was about how these could build a strong base for the lighting of the scene, especially for the scene's where they would be filmed in the house. We felt that additional sources of Lighting could then be worked off these two light sources which would already light the subject. An example of this would be in Scene 4 where it states how Margot will be watching the TV and so from this we are looking to use the Rayzr lights to light the subject and setting and then use additional sources of lighting to also provide a depth to the scene as well as portray that Margot is watching the TV. This could be equipment such as an Aperture light that has a variety of effects that could be used to represent a TV reflection. On top of this, we discovered how the Rayzr lights provide both the neutral colours required from the lighting as well as the dynamic of having a wider range of colours that could be used for the scenes where we have additional characters. The dynamic and creative freedom of this piece of equipment, we felt was a key factor as to why we wanted this to be our main source of lighting.

In terms of my role for this day, I was recording the audio that was used in the house which was where Margot is in the Living Room. The key for that scene was making sure that the continuity between the lighting was correct but also recording the dialogue and making sure that it was clear. One of the benefits that we had from this was that some of the shots that were being taken were actually quite tight in on the subject meaning that the Boom Mic could get really close to the subject. As well on this day, I wanted to make sure that I got the ambience from the Bedroom having forgotten about it on the previous day. However one of the issues that we found during the filming at the house was that it was right by a construction site and so there was constant moving and beeping that was being picked up on Camera. We overcame this by looking at potentially lowering the db level but getting closer in or choosing the correct moments to start a take. The other scene was filmed in the park where me and Jude swapped over as he took over on Sound. We decided that with it being a walking scene, that Jude would not move with the subjects as it may pick up on the Microphone. But instead use the Boom Pole to follow the subjects along. My role during this was to help out with the Camera, as it was a tracking shot using the Dolly track, I decided to cover Ben to make sure that he knew where the end of the Track was. The slow movement of the dolly meant that it felt like you were following the characters at a nice slow pace and then I would give Ben a tap to let him know that he's near the end.

I was on Sound for this short scene in the Podiatry Clinic where there was a few additional sounds that I needed to record as well as a couple of obstacles. One of the main things with this was that with it being a tight space and a number of characters with dialogue, it was tricky to find a suitable place to put the Boom pole without it being in view. The harsh white lighting meant that the shadows could be formed easily and there was a few shots where the background was fairly obvious and so I had to avoid anything appearing from that. There was four characters that were used for this scene and so I think we could have helped ourselves by having someone else record the audio as well as myself so that we have two separate recordings that could be mixed together. The additional sounds that were recorded during this day were the Podiatry Clinic ambience as well as separately recording the door opening and closing as I was aware that it could not be seen on Camera and so could help with the edit. I felt that having these additional sounds just provides that further help to the Editors.

As this was the final day of filming in the house, there wasn't a huge amount of dialogue or Sound required. However there was still pieces of Sound that was recorded just in case it was needed. The issues from the Construction site still came up as there was a heavy peeping that could be heard however we managed to work past it. I made sure to keep listening back to the audio after the takes just to make sure that it could be the final take as there was no issues from an audio point of view. The same obstacles was made for this scene as well as I wanted to make sure that I was creating professional dialogue but also ensure that the Boom Mic was not coming into the shot. Some of the other shots that were carried out during this final day were the tap dripping and the key part of this was that we were working with what kind of drip we wanted to get. We concluded how on the plate the drip was the most clearest as I did not want to level the db level any higher so that I didn't create any fuzzing noises. We tried a variety of different objects that the drip could come off but to keep with the feel of the piece and the way in which the drip can be heard, we felt it best that it should be coming off of the plate.

The lighting for this final day followed the idea behind Three Point Lighting because we used the TV Studio set that already had the overhead lights on. The focus of the scene was the two characters that were sitting on the sofa and so we decided to use the Key and Fill lights that were mixed in with the Apertures but also a back light that would just be slightly seen off camera. On the set, there was a back window that we decided to use the Lupo for to create a back light. We felt that this added the depth to the scene that also protrayed the atmosphere for how we wanted this scene to feel. The feel of this scene was fairly dark which myself and Jude decided that we would make sure that the subjects are fairly lit which means that the Editors can have creative freedom for how they want that scene to look overall.

There was only one shot that was required for this filming day and so sound wise I just had to get that done. However the shadows from the lights were still an issue that I faced. The angle that the camera was coming from what show higher parts of the background that if I used my Boom pole from above would very visibly show up. As a result of this, we decided to record the small dialogue of the scene from the lower down as this meant that the Boom Mic could not be captured on the Camera and also provide a clear and precise piece of audio. One of the things that I did find was that there was a slight echo with the dialogue but I feel that there wasn't much else that I could work around for this and so I looked at just lowering down the db level which did contribute to it fading slightly. Overall I felt that I recorded the sound much better than I did last year and that I still have more areas I need to work on.

5th December - Final Sound Review

My final Sound Review that I did was to make sure that everything was in line with what was required for the Sound design. There was only a few more shooting days that needed to be sorted out into all of the categories which consisted of the scene that was filmed in the Podiatry Clinic and so I wanted to make sure that there weren't any issues with the recording from that. For that filming day, there was additonal sound that we recorded such as the ambience and the door opening and closing and so I felt that evaluating this Sound to see if they needed to be sourced elsewhere was something that I felt was key. All of the Sound was sorted ready for the Editors and I felt that this meant that I was consist with reflecting on the Sound to see if there was any mistakes that I was making from one day, weren't repeated on the next one. I think that this links to reflecting on my work from last year as I felt that at this stage I was working harder to ensure that the Sound was better, however this time around I felt that we achieved a clear and precise recording of the Sound that would be best suitable for the Editors.
