If students cannot opt out of the tool without penalty (eg. the activity is graded, or no alternative is available), a Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) is required.

I do allow use of AI in my courses. Here are the parameters under which AI use is expected to occur in my courses.

• I'm also curious about how VIU defines the ethical, generative use of AI.  I read the blog about AI on VIU's website, but only see a list of approved faculty uses.  I also noted that one recommendation was that students use Turnitin, is that the best resource for checking AI and plagiarism?
