"Poe never really knew his parents. His father left the family early on, and his mother passed away when he was only three. Separated from his siblings, Poe went to live with John and Frances Allan, a successful tobacco merchant and his wife, in Richmond, Virginia."

Edger Allen Poe had a very rough childhood with his dad leaving him at a young age and having his mom die, then going to live in a foster family and having them pass seems just rough. I believe that you learn from your parents and although he really didn't have a stable family he still learned from what his guardians did. With his foster father doing what he did I think he learned from it and took it upon himself to do it as well. Most of Poe's stories are dark and mysterious and I think it is a good way to explore the fine line between madness and reason.I think that the fine line is being mad at someone because they did something to you but reason is like doing it because of something. For example, in the story we read "The Cask of Amontillado" has reason because he got "threatened" so Montresor chained Fortunatado up to the walls. Then in "The Tell-Tale Heart" he has madness towards the vulture eye but he has reason of why. He was mad at something but he murdered him because it was haunting him which is his reason. I think that everything that is in his stories are things he has either been through or things that reflect his child hood. He didn't have much support or guidance in his childhood which now he probably thinks anything is okay.
