Jean Baudrillard created the term "hyperreality" to describe a state in which people interact more with simulations of reality instead of reality itself, confusing the line between simulation and reality. The theories of Jean Baudrillard, particularly his notion of hyperreality, have led to major debates in the field of sociology. Some of his ideas were misinterupted. Instead of claiming that reality doesn't exist, Baudrillard argued that reality and its representation were blending together in modern day society, making it difficult to tell between illusion and reality Shapiro (2024).

Shapiro, Alan N. “Decoding Digital Culturewith Science Fiction.” Oapen.org, 2024, library.oapen.org/viewer/web/viewer.html?file=/bitstream/handle/20.500.12657/92281/9783839472422.pdf?sequence=1&isAllowed=y.

When compared to earlier generations, Gen Zers talk about mental health more than ever before. The emergence of technology and social media may be the cause of that. Going back to Manheims generational theory such as the shared experiences influencing each generation, and for Gen Z, mental health is a major issue for society. Even though comparing oneself to others on social media can be harmful in terms of mental health, I believe it has also served as a forum for individuals to talk about their common experiences and as a place for inclusivity, giving others a voice and making them feel seen.

Digital Natives derived from Marc Prensky (2001; 2011) to describe students born after 1980, who live ostensibly immersed in internet technologies. Generation Z grew up in a society that is heavily dependent on digital technology, such as the internet, social media, or anything related to advances in technology. As the first generation to be completely engrossed in digital technology, Gen Z has influenced relations, education, and learning. Flynn (2021) states "Peoples’ engagement with the digital realm shapes their life chances in multiple ways. Employment, access to health services, and education are all affected by digital engagement".

Flynn, Susan. “Education, Digital Natives, and Inequality.” Irish Journal of Sociology, vol. 29, no. 2, 1 Apr. 2021, pp. 248–253, https://doi.org/10.1177/07916035211004815.

Presnsky (2001) says that education should be improved because this new generation (Gen Z) has more advanced access to the internet and better resources than its teachers from previous generations.

As noted by Mannheim (1928), the societal and historical experiences of a generation's early years influence that generation. Generations are linked by shared social experiences and biology (age differences), according to Norbert Elias (1989). According to him, generations are intertwined groups in which both young and old are dependent on one another. For their education and societal integration, young people rely on the elder generations. Generational power can evolve over time, and generational clashes are likely to grow as future generations gain more influence.

Specifically when it comes to politics, different generations have opposing viewpoints. Conflict between Boomers and Gen Z is that the majority of the younger generation believes that Boomers are too authoritative and still hold conservative beliefs that are at odds with contemporary norms. Boomers are criticized by some Gen Z and Millennials for creating or amplifying issues such as political ones financial difficulties (e.g., student debt, housing troubles), climate change. Which in turn have led to resentment of Boomers.
