How can people show tolerance towards others?
People can show tolerance towards others by being kind to others no matter their race. Also by always following the Golden Rule.

What does service mean to you? 
Service means to help people or something without being asked but to be kind for no money.
What we think service means to us is helping others without getting payed and helping others that we may not like.We should help people to make them happy. 

How can you serve others in your community
I can help the community by picking up trash and helping the elderly. We could also help homeless shelters, anthem lemonade stand, pennies for patients, we could have a food drive, we can donate to charity, Coats for kids, help our neighbors, and plant trees.

Mr Luther King is important because he was a main activist in the the civil rights movements

Students came up with a K/W/L chart about Dr. King:

KNOW-----> Wanted civil rights for all, Was assassinated, *Originally named Michael, Wrote the "I Have a Dream Speech", Grandfather/Father were ministers, Graduated from Morehouse College at 19.

WANT to KNOW----> What schools did he want to go to? What made him want to follow the path for equality? Why did he change his name?

LEARN-----> Was inspired by the Protestant leader, Martin Luther, which inspired him to change his name. Assassinated by James Earl Ray. His home still stands. People kept his legacy going. Congressmen fought to have a holiday named after him and it took 15 years for it to be signed into law. 

Martin Luther King, Jr. experienced challenging events as an adult. For example, he was stabbed on September 20, 1958 by a 42-year-old woman. The blade nearly hit his heart. In fact, a sneeze could have killed him. After Martin recovered, he was not angry. In fact, he asked for the woman to not go to jail! I think that was very merciful of Martin. Ten years later, he talked about this event in his “I’ve Been To The Mountaintop” speech. 

Another difficult event was when Martin’s home was bombed. At around 9:00 PM, during the bus boycott, a bomb was thrown into his house. Martin got home around 15 minutes after the bomb exploded. Luckily, his wife and baby were safe. About 300 people had shown up at Martin’s house. They had weapons and were very angry. Martin told them that they should meet hate with love. I think that Martin was compassionate to tell the people that. 

A significant event was Selma. In 1965, Martin Luther King, Jr. went to Selma, Alabama to plan a march for voting rights. During the march, people in the march were beaten by police officers. I think that marching in selma was a very brave thing for Martin to do. The president sent 1800 soldiers to protect the marchers. After the march, the president made laws that would make it easier to vote. In my opinion, Martin’s compassion, mercy, and bravery brought about important changes for blacks

Although there were important changes, currently, some police officers are still abusing blacks. In the future, I think that police officers should stop hurting black people. If white people keep assuming that black people are always the ones doing something wrong and not helping the people who are being abused, then there might be more crimes, because when people assume the worst, people get the worst. If we help black people when police are abusing them, then black people might commit less crimes in anger or because they feel unfairly treated. Although the past and present are tough, we can keep working harder to make Martin’s dream a reality.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was an activist. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia at 501 Allum Avenue. His parents are Martin Luther King and Sr. and Alberta Williams King. He had two siblings, Alfred Daniel was a younger brother he had a older sister named Christina. he went to Housey College, Yonge Street Elementary and Hayward Elementary Booker Washington High School. He did not know about segregation until one day his white friends said they couldn't play with him. Another event was when he and his father went to a shoe store  and the person there said that he would serve them if they sat in the back. His father left. These two events helped in shaping who he was.

    Dr Martin Luther King Jr once led a march for rights to vote. The sheriff in the area thought about shutting down the march shutting it down because Martin had so many enemies. He was arrested and someone else was killed but after that he kept going for civil rights. 

He led the March on Washington, Which had 200,000 to 300,000 people there 2,000 police and 1000 thousand FBI came. but they didn't have to do anything becouse there was no problems.

Another example of his kindness is when he was stabbed by a black woman named Miss Curry who was mentally ill. Instead of saying she should go to jail, he said she needed help. She s‍tabbed him with a letter opener. If he had sneezed he would have died.

    He showed that every one needed equal rights and I think it helped. Things are getting 

better, but there's still a lot to go. I think that Martin was a good person.

Martin was involved in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The reason it started was Rosa Parks was arrested for not giving up her seat. The boycott lasted for 382 days, for over a year! Some cities brought things like money and shoes to help Montgomery with the boycott.

 In Selma, Alabama, Dr. King Jr. organized a march. The reason was many black people lived in that city but only a few were able to vote. The march was to the state capitol in Montgomery to demand voting rights for black people. Martin Luther King, Jr. was arrested and receive some help from President Johnson when the march made headlines.This is an example of people of different backgrounds working together. 

Martin Luther King, Jr. was involved with the Greensboro Four sit-ins. In Greensboro a few black students sat at a lunch counter.The waiter refused to serve them and the next day they came back with more people. Martin Luther King Jr. attended a sit-in. Soon there were sit-ins happening all over the south.

 I think Dr. King was a great leader and role model. I hope the future will change for the better. I think that having less criticizing things on the media would have a positive effect on our happiness . This will help make us not have as much hate. It will also inspire people to follow their dreams. I hope the future will change for the better.
