Gitanjali is an 11 year old girl who created a device to see how much lead there is in water. One day her family was testing to see if there was lead in the water and it wasn't accurate. The sign post I chose was quoted words. In the text it says "Failure is just another step to success" . This is quoted words because they are the exact words that Gitanjali said. I think the author put this signpost in the article because its supposed to be inspirational. Gitanjali is encouraging young people to not be afraid to fail.

(15 mins whole article)

In my book Refugee by Alan Gratz I was reading about Josef and he is still on the boat with his family to leave Germany. In the text it said "All of us are going to Cuba to escape the Nazi's". I had a question when I read this. Why would they go to Cuba because with my background knowledge about Isabel I know there is war in Cuba too. So why would they go to Cuba if its bad there too?

(15 mins 14 pages)

In my book Refugee by Alan Gratz I am still reading about Josef. He is on the ship with his sister watching movies and eating delicious food. In the text they call it "Paradise". I had a prediction while reading this. I feel they are going to get caught soon. I think they're going to get caught because Josef's dad is still freaking out about everything. Also, holocaust is still going on so maybe there will be a search for Jews on the boat. I fear they will get caught.

(15 mins 13 pages)

In my book Refugee by Alan Gratz, I read about Josef. He was on a boat talking to some girls and his sister Ruthie said, "Josef is thirteen, he's going to have his bar mitzvah soon!" I was wondering why Ruthie would say that because it should be kept a secret. Additionally the girls they were talking to didn't question it. I was confused because having a bar mitzvah is a Jewish tradition. So why didn't the girls question them or tell somebody? Were they Jewish too?

A picture of a bar mitzvah.

(20 mins 18 pages)
