In 1934 he was sent to Alcatraz because of tax Evasion. Although there was no actually evidence and they pleaded innocent they were found guilty. They were sentenced to death in the electric chair. The only reason they were accused of the murder was because they were Italian anarchists. During the time of the Red Scare people were feared immpirgrants, communist, socialist, and anarcitic, so because of this Sacco & Vanzetti were consided guilty in the eyes of the pople.
