God, thank you for this community -- Lord, I am going to miss the people here.
I can hardly believe how far you have brought me, and now we are taking this next step into only you know what. You are so much more steady than my life is these days.
Keep me steadfastly seeking you when I leave this place. Grant me inspiration, motivation, and humility as I put to use the gifts you have given me. Amen.
(from the Valpo prayer book, In Thy Light We See Light)

Mixed emotions, next steps, & good courage

This is one of those mixed emotion times for our faculty & staff. We are all proud of what you have accomplished and excited for your next steps. But we will also miss seeing you regularly. You have played important roles in our community, and your absence will be felt. There's a good chance you're feeling mixed emotions right now too--maybe sadness mingled with exhilaration--and that makes good sense during the big transition of a college graduation.

In the middle of navigating these feelings and this transition, please know that you matter--to us here at Valpo and to the broader world beyond. The world needs more people like you, and we are grateful to have been fellow travelers with you for awhile on this campus, where we all learned and grew together.

You may not know the exact shape of things to come on the other side of graduation, and that's okay. Few among us ever fully know our future plans, even when we think we have it figured out. Remember that whatever happens, you're resilient. You navigated a year and a half of college amid a global pandemic, and you graduated. You learned well and deeply, and not just from books. In other words, you've got this.

In moments like these, I like to hold the promise of the Holden Prayer close, remembering that I am called "to ventures of which [I] cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown." And yet amid all that, God "give[s] us faith to go out with good courage." I pray for good courage for each of you--we are holding you in our hearts.
~Dr. Anna Stewart
