The females in sparta were expected to get an education and be strong so the could have strong baby boys. They had a lot more freedom than other greek city states.

Boys left there houses at the age of 7 for military camp they were treated harshly and feed very little. They entered the army at 20 and were not allowed to visit home until they were 30 and they couldn't leave the military until they were 60. Sparta girls were in charge around the house and had alot of rights because the males were not there.

Education was very important in Athens. From their mothers, girls learned how to cook and sew and run a home, and how to be a good wife and mother.  Women did not go to school.
