In darkness is a book about the troubled city of Haiti. In real life a 7.0 mag earthquake had struck Haiti and more than 160,000 died. The author Nick Lake heard about it and had to write about it. The book is not actually about earthquakes, but about the narrator called shorty who is a young gangster and what happens in his life. And with some flashbacks and some of the Haiti history. If you like books with poverty, a bit of violence p, groups and gangs and also social justice I would recommend this book to you.

I really liked it and I cried a bit. But while I was reading the book I really felt connections with the characters in the book and how they live their life and stuff that happens at their school. Some connections were how agiue reacts to comments that get said about him because I know if someone said something really mean about me behind my back I would feel super sad but also mad. Also during the book I really like how he faces all the challenges and then over comes them and in the end gets the standing ovation. But how he said he thinks everyone should get one in their life, I think there is alot  of emphasis in agiue even though he gets bullied a lot.
