I realized that some of what she was saying, I had thought too. I knew that Africa was more than just tribes, but I never really thought about it. I think we should learn that even if someone lives in a place you think you know about, you really don't know what their life is like. Everyone is different and has different life experiences so they will never be what you expect.

Even if everyone is living a similar story, we all have different perspectives on what is going on. Not everyone's story is the same. When one thing happens to one person it can end up affecting another. It's dangerous to only see things one sided.

What stood out to me about the speech was how narrow our view of things can be when all we really see is one perspective. Like with all the stories that she told, it was interesting to see how the perspective of her roommate varied from the actual truth just because the roommate had only seen one side her whole life. I think we should take away from it that there is never one side to a story and that we should seek to be more open-minded to learning about things we don't know much about.

One of the things that stood out to me about Adichie's speech, "Danger of a Single Story," is that she is also guilty of using a single story to make assumptions about someone. The part that we should take away from her experience is that, judging is human nature. More often than not, everyone has made speculations about someone because they've listened to it. Adichie has told us to be more self-aware and correct our ignorance.
