We are going through an era in which information is extremely important and vital. At times, we can not remember what life was like before the arrival of the media through which we received and shared it. While this has generated enormous benefits in various areas of human development and interpersonal relationships, it has also produced an overstimulation and overload of irrelevant, unnecessary, and even, sometimes, false messages. Faced with this avalanche of ephemeral and confusing information, it seems that there is no other alternative but to balance between bewilderment and resignation. But, unlike all of these contents with which we are constantly bombarded, the message that emanates from the Bible has been consistently sustained, for thousands of years, offering life in Christ Jesus and granting purpose to human existence.

The Bible is not an ordinary text with simple stories or information like any other that may exist. In ancient Israel, teachers and rabbis compared the Word of God with the fig, a fruit highly appreciated and known by the people of that time and place. They used to say that in all the fruits there is something that is discarded (the peel, the pit, the seed) but that the fig was made all to eat and that the same thing happened with the Word of God: there is nothing that is disposable in she.

In this special month we do not celebrate a book that merely inspires or informs us. We celebrate that God has revealed himself to humanity through Jesus Christ, whom we know and with whom we meet through the Holy Scriptures. We celebrate that it is through the Bible that we hear Jesus say that He has come that we may have life, and that we may have it in abundance (John 10:10). We celebrate that because of the patience and consolation of the Scriptures, today we have hope (Romans 15: 4). We celebrate that His Word is a shield for those who wait for Him (Proverbs 30: 5). We celebrate that his Word is a lamp and a light in our path (Psalm 119: 105). And we celebrate that, no matter what happens, the word of our God remains forever (Isaiah 40: 8).
