Tithes are children who were born to be unwound, but tithes are not given the option to save themselves. These children are meant to be unwound so that their organs can be donated to someone who needs them more. Although the effect of being unwound means saving other, this idea is still immoral because it takes away the child's choice of if he or she wants to be sacrificed or not.

Marcus stands up to their dad saying, "Gotta wrap up all those life events, all those parties, into one... Very efficient right?" (Shusterman 29). Because Marcus is denied the right to life, tithing is immoral.

Tithes are told their whole life that they are the special ones in society because God wants "not first fruits, but best fruits." (Shusterman 33). Throughout the book, he makes many mistakes during his journey in finding a way out of his inevitable death. The only detail given by the author is when the protagonist, Connor, states that there are old products from his grandfather's time like iPods and flat screens (Shusterman 91). Every thing in this world is more advanced; therefore, different topics have caused a shift in this society, and Unwind describes one specific action taken in regards to abortion.

Throughout the book, the readers can conclude that the people of this society only care about the positive outcomes of being unwound. Connor realizes that not only is this action immoral since the freedom of choosing death is taken away from the kid, but also this action is selfish. Connor says that he would rather die than take a piece from an unwound person (Shusterman 128). A reasonable person would realize that he or she is receiving parts from a human that was 100% healthy and could still be alive if it were not for being unwound.
