The purpose of our advisory group is to advise the SALTO I&D during the planning, preparation and implementation of different projects and activities. This dedicated group will serve as a bridge, connecting our efforts with the real-world needs and perspectives of diverse communities. We would like to improve the inclusiveness of our events, our activities, our educational tools and the way we work. Therefore, to be aware of and lower the barriers, it is essential to consult with people who know how to overcome them, especially those who have experienced different forms of exclusion. By including people with expertise in working with disadvantaged youth in shaping our events, activities and policies, we are taking several steps forward in making the EU programmes for youth accessible to all.

The composition of the advisory group is crucial to its effectiveness. We aim for a group that reflects the diversity of our societies, with a preference for people with experience of inclusion approaches and/or diverse lived experiences: We especially invite youth workers and multipliers to apply that identify themselves as having a lived experience of inclusion and overcoming barriers. This could mean for example, but is not limited to, people facing health problems, educational difficulties, were born to a minority facing discrimination, have a migration background, faced social, economic or geographic barriers, and lived with a disability. This process will not be possible without them in the room. Furthermore, the advisory group should also include individuals with expertise in inclusion strategies, good practices, and relevant fields, preferably in the context of the EU Youth Programmes (Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps).

The advisory group would play an active role in providing advice to the work of SALTO I&D. Their core responsibilities include:

Providing Feedback: Regularly review and provide constructive feedback on yearly work plans, project proposals, resource development, campaigns, and organisational topics.
Offering Guidance: Sharing their expertise on inclusion best practices and identifying potential accessibility barriers within our initiatives.
Advocating for Change: Advocate for the needs of diverse communities and contribute to the development of inclusive policies and practices.

Facilitate trainings of empathy, human diversity, understanding and oversoming biases with the core Salto ID team.

Provide feedback and recommendations to support SALTO I&D’s mission to advocate and create opportunities to support the lives of young people with fewer opportunities.
Connect and exchange with other people with experience in inclusion and develop knowledge and understanding of different challenges faced.
Influence decision-making in topics, ideas and structures that are important for young people with fewer opportunities.
Opportunity to join activities organised by SALTO I&D, to share experience, meet people and get inspiration from others.

Through the Youth Field: disseminate the call through Erasmus+ National Agencies; former participants in events, trainers’ pools; European institutions, and other civil society organizations working on diversity and inclusion issues, disability rights groups, and advocacy groups serving diverse populations, particularly those with lived experiences.
Social Media & Online Platforms: Use social media platforms, website and online communities, ensure the communication materials are accessible and use inclusive language.

Welcome Meeting: for getting to know each other, the team members, and SALTO I&D's mission and work.
Discussion/workshop on the roles and responsibilities of the advisory group, communication protocols and decision-making processes.
Involvement: The initial term time for a group member is 1 year. The group is expected to meet 4-5 times per year and meetings should last approximately 2 hours. Members may be asked to contribute outside of meetings in other ways via email, both individually or as a group.
Establish clear feedback mechanisms for both advisory group members and SALTO ID staff. This allows for the continuous improvement of the communication dynamics and overall effectiveness of the group.

Establish an advisory group to support SALTO I&D’s work, from 2025;
Eg. planning, preparation and implementation of projects and activities;
Involving a diverse group of inclusion experts, representation, contribution from the field of youth work;
Make our events, our activities, our educational tools and the way we work more inclusive and accessible;
Inspire other SALTOs, National Agencies, etc to take similar approaches.
