According to the article social structure paragraph 1 it states “social structures are based on a hierarchy in which some people are valued more than others.”

This shows how in Mesopotamia some people valued over others, which helps me believe that social structure is the most important characteristic by showing that people are given their place in their society which make the entire civilization more civilized. When people are born into a social class they know their entire life what their role will be and how they are supposed to play a part in society.

According to the social structure article, paragraph 1 states “ A kingdom would only prosper if the king pleased the gods. Next in Mesopotamia’s hierarchy was the upper class: the priests, priestesses, and educators.”

This text talks about the upper class and their roles in civilization. They talk about how they are considered the most important people in their society because they have the most effect on the people in Mesopotamia.

This shows how the priests are in the upper class and their job is to provide religious service to the people in Mesopotamia, then there are educators which teach people to write. There were very few scribes in Mesopotamia so that's why they were valued more than others.

This text shows the rest of the social classes and who belongs in what category. The merchants bring food and goods from other areas. The builders build houses, temples and structures for their society. At the bottom of the social structure are slaves which are people who are owned by others and do work for the society.

According to the social structure article, paragraph one states “There was a big middle class, made up of common people like merchants, artisans, and builders. Enslaved people were the lower class, at the bottom of the hierarchy.”
