Design Hero task—students identify a design hero after the discussion of trademarks and brands. Design heros are printed on A4 to make a class display

Architecture example task - students extend their knowledge of designers to explore examples of architecture they have experience off. They describe the building they have identified, explaining and describing their choice.

Folder front page - follow specification, size, quality, brand identity, function, time constraint

Avatar design - hand drawn, following specification, personal identity, character for padlet column, color, line quality, communication, brand.

Divide 1 A4 sheet by three, fold or measure draw two lines.

Create six name badge ideas. Use rulers, shading, different tones and colors to create the design ideas. Each idea should have your first name and be readable from 10 meters distance. the final design will need to fit into the name card holder.

Folder cover, Use one of your designs to create your A4 folder cover. Draw two lines across the long sides of the paper giving a central working area for the design. You will also need to write your form group in the top right corner of the folder cover.

As table teams each member of the team will have a role. Each table team will compete in end-of-class quizzes as well as achieve points for tidiness and good workmanship. initial knowledge content/quizzes will focus on material knowledge starting with woods.

Each individual will complete a safety course to ensure they are safe to work in the workshop. The final assessment of the course will be a short test, the design of an infographic/poster

the design, making and decoration of a phone stand from wood.

The skills and design task is part of the safety test and will involve making a wooden phone holder. Students will need to measure, cut and shape wood for their design, sand and finish the surface and create a decorative design for the phone holder.

It remains unpacked, as we don't plan on using it for the next few months. The tool bits are in the box attached; these are also unopened. Training has been offered for this machine as and when it needs to be used. It can work standalone but normally used with an attached device.

All work should be secured on the drilling table; normally a drill vice is used. There are no drill vices in the inventory, so other clamps and vices should be used to secure work. Drill bit sets should be returned, and the teacher notifies of broken or missing drill bits.

Hair should be tied back and dangling items such as scarves, ties or necklaces worn

The Laser cutter should never be used with the lid up and micro switch covered. The laser light is invisible and is projected around the interior with mirrors.

The software we use to prepare files is 2DDesign (This needs to be installed on machines for students to use. There is a freedownload available that needs to be downloaded and unzipped and activiated files are adjusted and corrected. The file is then exported as a DXF file, this file is then imported into the Laser Light software where it is further adjusted and prepared for the laser cutter.

The band saw shpuld be cleaned out regularly depending on the frequency of use.

The power cables need to attach to a box secured to the floor where a commando power socket needs to be placed for both sockets. An on-and-off switch must be installed to isolate the saw. When maintenance is undertaken the saw must be isolated.

The extractor operates separately from the saw and must be switched on before sawing.

Care should be taken to avoid broken blades and pupils should be carefully monitored when first learning how to use this machine.
