This is a Review response. This is not a chapter book. The purpose of this book is to show and inform people about how the presidency really works verses how people interpret it to be. I found it hard to follow all the information being thrown at you. If I were to have this in an elementary classroom, it might even be hard for younger children to understand what they are reading. Although, I found it a challenging read, I enjoyed some of the facts that were in the book that I had no idea about. I don't think this book would be a good book to read to an elementary classroom. This is a Review response. This is not a chapter book. While reading this story, I absolutely fell in love. Although this story is a Creole Folktale, it has a very important lesson for children of all ages. The book tells a story about a young girl that wasn't liked by her mother or sister. One day while getting water from a well, Rose met a lady that would end up being her saving grace. After doing all the things the lady said and receiving many blessings, Rose returned home to her greedy mother and sister who wanted what she had. Rose's sister Blanche set out the next day to find the lady and ended up doing the opposite of what Rose did and received nothing good in return. When the mother and Blanche returned home, they found that Rose had left to live a better life. All of this was possible for Rose because she was kind and did what she was told. While I was reading this story, all I could think about was how every time CJ found something to complain about or question, his Nana would give him a reason to be grateful. However, it wasn't until I read this sentence from the book that I understood the true meaning of the story. This book was written to remind people that there is beauty in everything, even in the not so pretty places or situations. This is a Recommendation response. This is not a chapter book. Big Cat, Little Cat is a children's story that has a more understandable way of learning about the circle of life. In the story a new kitten is brought into the house and the older cat teaches the kitten the rules and how to do things like take a bath, when to eat, etc. When the older cat dies, the "kitten" (now the older cat) begins to teach the next new kitten how to live. This is such a great story for 3-5 year olds as it is a short book with lots of pictures and words that are easily understood. This is a book with 5 different chapters (short stories) about the lives of Frog and Toad. This would be great to use in a classroom when teaching about friendship, life challenges, patience, things not going how they are supposed to, etc. This book could also be used when lesson planning. For example, in the upper grade levels, you could give them writing prompts over topics in the book, or you could have a circle time where the whole class shares similar experiences.

This is the last 2 sentences of the book, but it really defines the whole book. All throughout the story, Bright Morning makes statements about how appreciative she is of where she comes from. After many struggles and being taken from her home land, Bright Morning becomes even more appreciative of the things that she had before she was stripped from it all. Dear Mrs. Solomon,
After reading this book, I am having some mixed feelings on whether it should be banned or not. The main subject of this book is about a little girl that has 2 mommies, instead of a mom and a dad. I realize that it is banned from schools due to this exact reason, however, I think that this  is not something that should be frowned upon. Some people will disagree, but if children are taught to hide things such as this, they might develop a sense of shame or guilt for something that is out of their control. They should be loved and accepted no matter what their family life is like at home or where they come from.

This book is told in pictures unlike most biography/autobiographys and has such a good story to it. This story tells of the daily struggles that Jackie went through from the time that he was a kid to the time he was a grown adult. You could use this book in a classroom when teaching children not to judge others, such as their classmates and friends, by the color of their skin, but by the content of their hearts. I feel like the story of Pocahontas could have been told in such a different way that is more kid friendly while still being educational. However, I did still enjoy reading this book and learned some new things that I did not know before. After many days of not getting any letters or money from her mom, Ada begins to worry that her mom might never come back. Along her journey, she was faced with many things that she didn't understand, such as why colored people couldn't sit in white peoples seats, why they weren't allowed in certain restaurants, why they couldn't sit on benches, etc. After feeling overwhelmed by all the Jim Crow Laws, 'Tricia Ann ran to a church and began to cry. This is when she was told to listen to what her grandmother would say if she was there. Throughout the story, the two boys share things about them to get to know each other better. Elliot and Kailash soon realize that although they live in two different countries, they are ultimately very similar. They both have families, have ways of greeting people, love to climb trees, ride a bus to school, etc. Although these things are all different in appearance, the value of these things does not change. I recommend the ages from kindergarten to 2nd grade. You can use this book when introducing rhyming to your students. I think that this is also a great book to use when teaching children to read because it is a short book that has a lot or small, repeating words. You could also incorporate some counting into the story time by having the children count how many feet are on each page. Dr. Seuss's stories are great for all ages and such a joy to read.
