Remake of Photovoice Project: Self, Students, Community & Service through Critical Eyes by TABATHA GOULD

In this project, you will illustrate and reflect upon your evolving perceptions of your own identity, students, communities, and critical service learning as a framework for teaching for equity and diversity. During the first four weeks of the course, you select and/or take photographs that represent your thoughts, feelings, and experiences about your identity, racial identity, students and their communities, and service. The first four photos and reflections are phase one of the project--Pre-Photovoice. As you engage with texts and the community, you will take different photographs and reflect upon your perspective. The second four photos and reflections are phase two of the project--Post-Photovoice. Throughout the semester, you will house your photographs and reflections for consistent feedback on padlet.com. On the assigned dates, you will bring physical or internet copies of your photos to class to discuss with your peers. During our final reflection course, you will present a final 5-minute selection of these photos with accompanying reflections in a documentary video.

What is my identity?
I identify as an African American feminist female. We are strong, mentally, physically, and emotionally and therefore should always be treated as so. I am a Christian woman who lives by faith not by sight. I am an aspiring Special Education teacher.
What factors shape my identity?
I was raised by a strong female figure, my mother. She was a police officer and I watched her conquer any obstacles put before her. This strength has been instilled in me. In addition to my mother, I grew up with four other sisters.
Who am I?
I am a 22 year old graduate student who is aspiring to be a special education teacher. I want to provide support and encouragement to the students who need it.
How do I show up in the world?
I am a very outgoing individual. I try to be as confident as I can to encourage others to be the same way. I am a giver before I am a receiver and if there is one gift I could give to everyone it would be love.
How does my identity inform my values, ideas, and actions?
My identity allows me to live a life of integrity as I always want to be true to myself and my purpose in life.

I have always wanted to help those who are homeless in any way that I could. A few months ago I made care packages that included toiletries, gloves, water, snacks and a nice letter. I kept these packages in my car and handed them out whenever I had the chance whether it was at a red light or I had to pull over. I made the care packages because I know that it can be hard to get to stores and actually buy these toiletries. I also thought that leaving a positive note could change at least one person's mindset. Handing out the care packages make me feel as if I'm making some type of impact on people's lives and it is a great feeling.
