Il color porpora, ad esempio, rinvierebbe agli stessi significati che esso aveva assunto presso i popoli indoeuropei, richiamando i concetti di dignità, potenza e sovranità.Il pino, che svetta alto e saldo, simboleggerebbe la fortezza, mentre il serpente richiamerebbe la prudenza. Il nome di Casarano, infatti, deriverebbe da Caesaranum cioè 'possesso di Cesare'. L'origine romana di Casarano è confermata dal recente ritrovamento, nei pressi dell'attuale Chiesa di Casaranello, di due epigrafi databili tra i secc. I a.C. e I d.C. i quali testimonierebbero l'esistenza di un casale romano. Palazzo Capozza è, a Casarano, forse l'unico esempio in cui la ricchezza e l'enfasi decorativa degli interni trovano una corrispondenza anche all'esterno. La centralità del fronte è sottolineata da un loggiato che si apre con tre arcate a tutto sesto sorrette da colonne classicheggianti (le cui volute sono raccordate da festoni). La balaustra della loggia, come anche quella dei balconi laterali, è curata nei minimi dettagli: tra le colonnine tornite compare la figura di un bambino che reca in mano una colomba.
