         <title>Balance</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Balance is the ability to move or to remain in a position without losing control or falling.<br><br><strong>Sitting </strong><br>1. Consider centre of gravity- sit up straight this ensures line of gravity runs through the middle of the body, ensure we don’t lean to one side when sitting this is helped by distributing loads<br>2. Base of support- your base of support will be in line with your line of gravity if it is not the balance of the individual will be negatively impacted therefor making it more likely to fall off the chair<br>3. Distributing loads- you want to be sitting with weight distributed evenly on the chair you may have your feet flat on the floor as this would help with the distribution of load and better the base of support<br><br><strong>standing<br>1. </strong>Centre of gravity- ensure the base of support is central to the line of gravity and ensure the base is wide enough to maintain stable i.e. feet just wider than shoulder width apart<br>2. Base of support- You are least balanced when your feet are together<br>3. Distributing loads- this is easier if the base of support is wide and the joints are well aligned with each other.&nbsp; This helps avoid a joint or muscle group being over stretched which in turn could lead to injury <br><br><strong>Walking<br></strong><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Managing Loads</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><strong>Sitting </strong><br>1. size of muscle group used - leaning to one side will decrease the size of muscle group used. <br>2. when slouching the distance from hips and vertebrae is increased causing stress on these joints<br>3. distribution of load is easier to attain if the spine is in line with the natural curves of the body. This reduces lower back from being stressed.<br><strong>Standing <br></strong>1. Distribution of load is easily attained if the stand is wide and joints are in the same position to reduce stress on the muscles.<br>2. increasing the size of muscle groups used by standing on two feet instead of one leg.<br>3. keeping a straight back will reduce stress in the lower back. <br><strong>Walking <br></strong>1. keep spine, hips and knees all in one a line<br>2. by using the whole of each foot will distribute the load easily to prevent putting stress on any joints or spinal complications<br>3. keeping back straight will mean the size of muscle group is increase to prevent any stress of muscles and joints.</div>]]></description>
