I think that the boundaries of traditional school may be too narrow for this discussion. I wonder whether these principles (or additional ones) could be applied to real-world contexts beyond the four walls of school.

The authors, in their effort to transform learning, did not critique the factory model in depth. In fact, they could have provided rationale to do schooling in a very different way than sorting children by ages and having one teacher assigned to each classroom. I wonder what transformed learning would look like if it were a bit more ambitious?

Could teacher training be modified in light of the 8 principles? Would it be reasonable to prepare them for transformed learning contexts?

One dimension I noticed that was missing in the book was assessment of student learning and it seems like an area which holds a lot of opportunity for redesign. What would school look like without constraints such as grades?

What are the logical next steps from this book?

This book's very premise provokes a challenge for readers. The goal of transformation of learning and all the advice that the authors provided across the wide ranging 8 keys.

I was particularly impressed with the author's study guide questions that accompanied the book and, even more so, with their social media presence #LT8Keys which provide a wealth of resources for anyone wanting to pursue logical next steps from this book.

For me, as a reader, the logical next steps are to take stock of our school's current state of learning across the 8 keys and especially review our use of technology in terms of the Rigor/Relevance Framework and Return on Instruction.

What are the implications for education?

The goal of the book is absolute transformation of learning and redesign of education and so the implications for education are nearly limitless.

However, I think that the biggest implication is the shift in pedagogy from teacher-led to personalised learning. With this monumental shift, students should be given the autonomy in how and what they learn and be supported in developing skills to invent and inquire. This is an exciting prospect for anyone working closely with students!

Another implication that I see in my personal context could be a redesign of the physical layout of classrooms and school to align more closely with our school's constructivist
methodology. I would like to see how we could envision even more areas that promote innovation and inquiry.
