When I was trying to pick a book yesterday, I was wavering between “Looking for Alaska” by John Green and “The Color Purple” by Alice Walker.
It was a tough decision. But, I ultimately decided to choose this book because It has a way of going through the story that is unique, instead of chapters it haas timepoints that countdown to a major event that happens in the book.

1.  It is a Young adult fiction Genre Novel

2. Another book john green has written is The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns and more

3. Looking for Alaska is more of a modern read

4. It has been made into a TV Series 

So far, I like it! Here is a quick summary of what I have read so far; The book doesn’t have chapters which I like, it has timepoints that are counting down to a major event in the book, I love story’s that do this and it adds mystery to what is going to happen. Some of the characters introduced have been Alaska Young, Miles “Pudge” Halter, Chip “The Colonel” Martin and Takumi Hikohito. Today I went to this fun museum and saw a ton of cool pieces. My favorite would have to be “Wild Nights” by Emily Dickinson. It really stood out to me because it was a poem about a search for love coming to an end. I also like that the poet focused on metaphors for conclusion. Overall, I really liked all the pieces! The genre of my book is a young adult fiction. The main character is a boy named Miles "Pudge" Halter who moved into a boarding school in Culver Creek. The conflict of the story is Pudge making an attempt to fit in with the new crowd he has been introduced to. Pudge questions his identity by making decisions he doesn't entirely want to do; for instance, Pudge decides to stay at Culver Creek for thanksgiving instead of going to see his family and he regrets making the decision because he normally wouldn't make that kind of decision but he did because he is falling for a girl. 

In the book, their is a scene that is a critical moment for Pudge's identity. On page 101-102 Pudge and Alaska are in the forest at night, and drink wine. This is an important moment for Pudge because before then, he has never drank any alcohol, the only reason he is drinking the wine is because he wants to have a shot at  Alaska. So he is changing himself to make himself look more cool in Alaska's eyes. some quotes include Page 101: "I took a minor sip, and as soon as I swallowed, I felt my body rejecting the stinging syrup on it". Page 102: "I was drinking on campus. So we lay in the tall grass between the soccer field and the woods, passing the bottle back and forth and tilting our heads up to sip the wince-inducing wine".

I can somewhat relate to pudge. I have had similar identity crisis's where I had done things to change my identity, I would do things I normally never do but I did anyway just to get someone's attention. This book definitely stands out more than other books I've read, it has a look on how some teenagers act in todays world, doing stuff they shouldn't but do it because of personal problems in their lives. ]]> 2023-02-23 15:12:53 UTC https://padlet.com/nschirma000/qonvux9buxzp0ea7/wish/2492705565
