Autumntime

by Anthony Lentini

1971

This short story written by Anthony Lentini in 1971， it is about a child living in the future where artificial things replaced most of the "real" things in the world, and the main character in this story heads to a place to see a real tree. Some sentences in this story shows things that is unnormal for example" and I was surprised to find real grass growing on the sides of the concrete walkway built for tourists" this shows that even the most common grass have been removed from everyday life and has been replaced by artificial things. "world outside with all its metal, plastic, and glass." This sentence indicates that the futrue world has been a boring place filled with metal plastic and glass it has to plants and possibly even animals. This makes me connect to the book "Giver" where the whole world has no colours and the residents in this world have never seen a animal.

Examination day

By Henry Slesar

This short story is written by Henry Slesar in 1958, it is about a child being tested on his inteligence by the government once he turns 12. Some sentences in this story has some elements that shows some dystopian features. For example ‘This is different. This is a - special kind of test. They give you this stuff to drink, you see, and then you go into a room where there’s a sort of machine spoke by Dickie's dad it shows that the future world uses machine to test people's intelligence and has a special kind of liquid to prevent them from lying. Second example is"We regret to inform you that his intelligence quotient is above the Government regulation, according to Rule 84 Section 5 of the New Code.’ This shows that even being smarter ges the person in trouble and even killed this shows that the world is very fair in a way but also very cruel. This makes remember of another story called Harrison Bergeron where everyone is equal.

By Ray Bradbury

1950

There will come soft rain is a short story written by the author of the book Fahrenheit 451, it is a dystopian evidence of these are, for example'At night the ruined city gave off a radioactive glow which could be seen for miles." This suggests that that this world is a post apocalypse situation and which means that there have also been a war. The whole story also shows dystopian features like that all the activities are scheduled which means that the world is highly organised like the world in giver. This book does not show much obvious dystopian features but some features inside can still help it to be identified a s a dystopian novel.

Rainbow Six

By Tom Clancy

This book is published in 1998 and written by Tom Clancy. This book is about a former CIA(Central Intelligence Agency) field agent named John Clark commanding a group of counter terrorist team called the Rainbow. Six in the title means the American rank of captain. I will recommend this book to others as it has a very exciting story line and it is almost like watching a action movie. The story also consist of facts like how government agencies work to track down or gather information of terrorist. It also features gun fights and weapons and military vehicle which is definitely what interested me, too. The story of this book is exciting and filled with cliffhangers, this book is not hard in terms of basic language but does consist of large amounts of military and other professional terms. These professional words makes the story more realistic and also taught me things about the military and the global situation.
