A fellow of the American Board of Forensic Toxicology, Dr. Barry Logan has been conducting research and practicing as a toxicologist for three decades. Dr. Barry Logan currently serves as chief scientist and senior vice president of forensic science initiatives at NMS Labs since 2008 and as executive director of the Center for Forensic Science Research and Education (CFSRE) since 2010. The Center is a world leading research institute with grants from the United States National Institute for Justice and US Department of Defense, as well as from the National Highway Safety Administration, and the National Safety Council.

Dr. Logan’s responsibilities with the CFSRE include the management of the Fredric Rieders Family Foundation, a nonprofit organization that spearheads a variety of research and educational initiatives related to forensic science. The CFSRE is one of the leading Centers internationally for forensic science education and takes pride in its role of mentoring the forensic science leaders of tomorrow.

Over the years, Dr. Logan has testified in high profile cases more than 200 times, delivered hundreds of scientific presentations and authored more than a hundred articles for respected peer-reviewed publications such as the Journal of Forensic Sciences, Crime Laboratory Digest, and Analytica Chimica Acta. In recent years, Dr. Logan has increasingly been consulted on the analysis of dangerous designer drugs such as the synthetic cannabinoids, commonly known as “fake weed,” and synthetic cathinones, commonly called “bath salts.” More recently he is involved in initiatives to combat the opioid epidemic, taking a leading role in identifying novel opioids and designer fentanyl compounds, including furanyl fentanyl, carfentanil, and U-47700.
