Students will be provided with pictures of a rectangular prism, triangular prism, and a cylinder (images on the left). Students are to draw the net of each (images in the right) on a digital drawing app on their school iPad. This will help the visual learners see where the surface area formulas come from.

Students are to move about the room and identify one triangular prism, one rectangular prism, and on cylinder and measure the surface area (in inches) of each. The measurements will be taken with the new apple Measure app on their school iPads. Kinesthetic learners will be able to move their iPad to capture and understand the measurements on the screen.

I will assign students to groups of three. The groups will create a PowerPoint together that will include examples of the objects around the room and an explanation on how the net drawings relate to the formulas. This will allow for interpersonal learners collaborate and discuss their ideas.
