Here, the issue is about the movement to "defund the police" which was a big issue discussed last year around the Black Lives Matter movement in the summer. The perspective here is of a more "liberal" one where they want to defund the police and reinvest into more mental health initiatives. In this opinion column, there is so much "charged" language that skews it toward the liberal perspective suggesting that the foundations of the police are racist, violent, and oppressive serving to generalize all police. The author claims that reform is not working and would rather "dismantle" the whole system.

DC citizens are taxed but yet have no representation in the legislative chambers, but adding DC would skew the chambers into a Democratic majority. Puerto Rico should be a state if it's already a US territory, but giving DC statehood is like giving New York or Los Angeles statehood, which has WAY more people living in it.
