Passage 3 points out that animals do not possess the capacity to recognise, process, and articulate their own value, and should therefore be excluded from human rights as a result. This undermines the idea stated in Passage 2 that animals are creatures capable of feeling and must hence necessarily be recognised as having innate worth.
