Alex - Momma, where are you from?

In life, it is important to have a good path, get a lot of good faith, and follow dreams.

The story begins with a little girl asking, "Momma, where are you from?" And the mom starts talking about what her past was like, what life she lived in her childhood. Even though that we don't have any evidence that she is 12, 11, 10, 9, etc. But we can infer she is young, and happy.

Now, we can obviously tell that this is a positive setting in this story. She had a nice, sweet, calming tone. And even though she did include that she couldn't go on the bus and she had to walk, she also never saw any black kids in her class, she didn't add other stuff that will make her daughter worry, if she did, she would get confused and if the mother explained, she might be scared of school, and how life would be. But the topic stayed positive, and it was just a quick saying.

Another theme that I have found was in the middle of the story. When she called.. "Fish man! Fish man!" And they were getting food from a man, that catches fish! It was a very friendly positive, welcoming part. But onto my theme, "In life, it is important to bring back memories and express your childhood." That one might be confusing, but it is not. Let me explain!

Childhood is a very important thing to remember, if you don't, some life of your'res can fade away. You won't remember what you did when you were young, and you want stories to tell to a kid, your kid, or your grandchild. Even more things you need to know. Even if you are still young, what do you remember when you were very young? Don't remember anything? Well then that is a sign you should keep going.

I have a REALLY important detail to share. A very important detail I found in my book, is where they are cooking dinner. It is a very warm moment, because the dining table, there sitting, daughter and mom are making food, and piling up, and just, so happy. It reminds me of some good things that would happen in life. Even though you are the same person in life, your memories will grow, some bad, some good. It is very important remember memories, but if it's too hard, (When I mean too hard I mean it hurts) then just, give the memory away. But you should care.

I have one more theme and another good detail, "In life, it is important to smile and bring joy, even if some days are dreadful." Now I good detail to support my answer is on one page where they can't go on the bus because of there race, but they still are motivated to go to school. Even though they can't see people that are another race, (But they can see light brown skin, dark brown skin) they are still happy, if you are yourself on a piece of paper, and you crumble yourself, try to fix it.

My quote is also, "if people can't fix you, you have to fix yourself." But I am very good at quotes (Sorry)

But fun fact: Did you know, Momma, where are you from? Was an old radio show?" So to rap my thinking up, The main theme of my story, is "In life, it is important to take what you deserve." My detail is well, all of the pages. It takes the memories and soaks up the goodness, and gives it. Thank you for reading!

(this is extra credit) A good theme is "In life, it is important to know that good things come to an end, and you can tell them now."

A theme that could be is that words are used for magic and give the people of earth a new look of the the magic in the world because in the book it had said "How could the earth still be turning when someone like Pop left it. That night, I sat at my desk and started writing. I wrote and wrote and wrote." and "As I climed the hill, I stoped and looked up at Pop's house for a moment "You're with Millie now Pop!" I wisperd" as well as ""Patricia, your spelling still leaves much to be desired; however, you've given yous words wings! I am departing from my custom . . . here is your A."

In life it is important to be brave in any situation, I chose this theme because in the book ENCOUNTER the main character and some of the tribes men were captured, but the main character was brave yet scared and did not cry out. "They took five of our young men and many parrots with them. They took me." Another quote to support that the character remained brave but scared is " So I was brave and did not cry out. But I was afraid." These two quotes support my reasoning on why the main character and his tribes men were kidnapped and remained calmed.

In life it is important to not strangers because if you do someday they will turn their back on you and you will lose everything. i chose this theme because in the book ENCOUNTER the main character encounters strangers and the main character greeted the stranger but did not know what would happen."Our young left the shelter of the trees. I - who was not a yet a man - followed, crying," Then the main character cried "Do not welcome them. Do not call them friends." Then at the end of the story the main character loses many valuables. "Our sons and daughters become their sons and daughters"

In life it is important to trust the people closest to you because some of the closest could be the right people to trust because you've known them for longer and how they act around you and other people. One quote to support my reasoning is "Let the pale strangers from the sky go away from us." This shows my reasoning on why you should trust the people closest to you, sometimes.

You dont have to fit in with people just because there all the same. You just have to be yourself, its good to stand out from the rest. Even though the people around mira seemed cold , arrogant , and dry . That didnt stop mira from being her colorful unique self. and her confident self led her to make everyone discover the colorful and wonderful person they are! This means we should be confident and be ourselfs all the time because we could change the whole word with it.

on page 1 , as i can tell mira lives in an apartment where people dont look very happy. everyone there looks depressed , sad and a little blue. but where mira is , her apartment is all colorful and unique! She didnt let that stop her.

Mira was very cheerful , she would try and make peoples day and whenever she would talk, she sounded cheerful! and at the end of the story she made her way to make everyone in town become therself and have fun and discover the colorful , wonderful , and happy people they are.!

Another theme is In life it is important to care about people and things that are happening. One example is when Nettie saw what was happening to the slaves, I can infer that what she saw she cared. Details to support my first theme are quote from the text. One quote is "I admit i jumped a little" Another Quote is "I was worried sick"
Details to support my second theme are when nettie got to where she was going she saw black people working on farms and realized they were slaves. In the middle nettie saw slaves being sold to people for work. A quote To support this is " I like A sack Of flour pushed A cross A store counter."
Another Theme is In life it is important to Have acceptance for where you go, for example in the south People are slaves and they are selling them for money, this makes me feel sad about how they get treated and what they do to them.

                             Theme and details
In life its important to be grateful for what you have because you can lose it in a second. I can support my theme by quoting for the text. " Emi and her family wasn't moving because they wanted to they were moving because the government were sending them to a prison camp." I can also tell that Emi and her family was not to thrilled to be moving to prison camp because the tone was gloomy, downhearted, and hopeless and I can prove that because the illustration of Emi's face expression was serious unlike other times when she is joyful and positive.

In life its important to be careful of what you do because it only takes one person to mess something up and change your life forever. I can support my answer because Emi and her family had to move out of their house they loved, Say goodbye to the people they cared about, and had to be hate by a lot of people for something a few people did that they didn't do.

In life it is important to move forward even if your present is not what you want it to be. Emi and her family worked hard to get in America and now they have to leave because up rumors and lies that America and its people thought and now Emi's life and a lot of more peoples lives have been changed forever. But they just got to move on.

                              Text and Tone
"She wiped the tears away but she couldn't wipe the sadness inside"

This makes me feel:
despondent
gloomy
serious

why:
This makes me despondent because these people did absolutely nothing and their getting treated like hot garbage.

"We loved America but America didn't love us"

This makes me feel:
frustrated
Serious
not happy

why:
This makes me feel frustrated because this little girl is confused and she loves this country but this country is not showing the love and support that she showed.

                            Inferences
I can infer the tone in the beginning of the story is serious because the face and mood in the beginning of the story was hopeless and not a lot of smiles were on there faces

I can infer that the Emi's mother was ok in the story and that she was joyful even thought that a lot of bad stuff was going on she had hope and she accepted it and that what I love about her.

   What Willis thinks
This book has change me and the way I thing about things. These people had to go to prison camps against their will because of rumors and lies that were thought just because a few people did something wrong. This is just messed up. And I feel sorry for this little girl and many more that have being traumatized for the rest of their lives. Now I understand what my teacher been talking about it only takes one person to mess it up but in this case only a few.

Theme: In life it's is important to take care of our world so our future won't be such a dump. For example in the text "JUST A DREAM" Walter at the beginning of the story he just came home from school and he stopped by the bakery and bought a jelly doughnut he ate it all fast and he threw the wrapper at fire hydrant near his house and left it there. A quote to prove that is that in the text it states that "He liked the red jelly from his fingers. Then he crumbled up the empty bag and threw it at a fire hydrant” But then later in the story Walter wished that he would be in the future because the present is boring. Soon after he saw what the future could become and so after he woke up and got his wrapper and threw in the right trash can this time.

Theme 2: In life it is important to never hope that the future would be so wonderful as it sounds. For example in the text "JUST A DREAM" Walter wanted to be in the future because his favorite show had robots and stuff like that and plus he thought that the present was boring and there was nothing to do.

Theme: in life it's important to be grateful for what you have. The first reason is that he wanted to live in the future and he wasn't trying to just live in the present. The quote, “Walter :went to bed wishing he would live in the future.” shows that he doesn't like the present.

Theme 2: In life it's important to respect his surroundings. A reason to support this theme is the quote “He liked the red jelly from his fingers. Then he crumbled up the empty bag and threw it at a fire hydrant” this quote was from page 1. And the last reason why he doesn't respect the earth is that he didn't separate the cans in the garbage. This was on page 4.

Theme 3: In life it's important to be kind to the planet. A reason to support this is that he looked at all the futures with the protagonist being lazy and saw how it would affect the earth, thus he began treating the earth properly and saw a bright future. A quote to support this is that “ Walter looked up at the leaves, too and realized where his bed had taken him. This was the future after all, a different kind of future. There were still no robots or tiny airplanes.”

The tone of this story in the beginning Walter is mean, disrespectful, lazy, and apathetic. A quote to support this “After dinner Walter took out the trash. Three cans stood next to the garage, one for bottles, one for cans and one for everything else. As usual Walter dumped everything in one can.” At the end of the story Walter changed his personality by sorting the cans and planted a tree and this shows that he was more respectful to the earth now. Walter was careless because in the text it articulates “You must need this tree for something important “oh yes” they said then walter noticed the letters on the woodcutters jackets he could just make out the words quality toothpick company.” This is very careless because he just goes right back to sleep. Walter was peaceful nearing the end of the book when he said, “there was something very peaceful about the huge tree next to his bed.” This shows his peaceful attitude when he saw the nearing future of the world. His personality changed from the beginning to the end by his tone changing because at the beginning of the story he was reckless and didn't care about his surroundings. A supporting detail to this is when he littered. When he went to the future he was caring, respectful,l and he was filled with gratitude towards the earth. A supporting detail to this is when he fixed all the mistakes he made the previous day.
