In September the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine hijacked three planes and then flew them to Jordan to demand the return of prisoners being held in Israel.

A terrorist attack was acted upon the World Trade Center towers in NYC with a huge bomb which was detonated under the North Tower under the parking garage.

Islamic terrorism was in the headlines again due to al-Queda (being led by bin Laden) exploded bombs outside of the American embassies in Tanzania and Kenya. This attack resulted in 224 people dead and 4000 injured.

2000

In October al-Queda steered a small boat loaded with explosives into the American warship, the USS Cole, docked at the port of Aden in Yemen. 17 people were killed and 40 were injured.
