MEET-178 Final Project Concept Discussion by Rochelle Rupnick

In one paragraph, identify the concept of your Event Planning Project. Be sure to include details on why you are selecting this specific event for this class project. If you are debating between a few concepts, please indicate what they are. I will try to help you narrow it down to one. If you are not 100% sure at this point, please indicate that as well. You will have two additional weeks to finalize your decision before Step 1 of the project is due.

Keep in mind that as part of this project, you will be required to go out on your own and conduct site inspections of venues where you could potentially hold this event. Therefore, selecting a "Destination Wedding" in a tropical location would not be a good choice.

Feel free to upload photos, videos or links that support your event concept.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Milwaukee specializes in adults mentoring children and teens in an effort to keep them from partaking in risky behaviors and to focus on academics. I would like the kids of BBBS to honor their mentors by planning a 1 day festival. This would include games, activities, and a dinner and dance including an awards ceremony in the evening. I like the concept of the mentors and kids working together to acheive goals. I thought about having an "Olympic Games" obstacle set up where the mentor/child need to compete in activities for points. The obstacles can be both fun and educational. Also the can be separated into groups based on age and ability. For those that chose not to compete, there will be activities, lessons, and seminars, such as cooking lessons, painting, or pottery classes. In the evening, everyone is welcome to gather for an informal dinner/dance and awards banquet.

I actually would like to plan a Health Fair for the employees of the company I work for. I have recently been diagnosed with something that has caused an entire overhaul of my life, exercise and my diet. I have since been struggling with finding anything to eat in our employee lunch room, at restaurants, and even just for at home. Given the preciseness of this diet I have found that there is so much I did not know and have been finding out and think that there should be more information about not only what I have but what others go through that have to deal with a different life than the normal. I will have it here at my work in an event room and hold it over the course of 3 days to allow for all employees from every shift to get a chance to attend. I will have food vendors, cooking demonstrations, nutrition specialists, and product booths. I will also have a booth with one of the nurse practitioners that works at our free health care clinic there for guests to be able to ask questions

Initially, I was going to pan an event similar to they type of after hours events that I plan at work (think cocktail hours and dinner receptions) however I am going to switch gears and plan a volunteer appreciation event for Above the Clouds, Inc which is a Christian based arts program that offers dancing, singing, martial arts and other activities to inner-city youth at no cost to their families. In addition to my daughter taking ballet classes and my son taking martial arts classes, I am the parent volunteer liaison for this non-profit. One of my responsibilities is to actually plan the volunteer appreciation event at the end of each season, so this is a great way to kill two birds with one stone or at least try to get an idea of what I would like to do for the actual event.

As I was doing the homework, I read up more on the American Red Cross and I see that they have limited resources for the assistance that they try to give, so I am going to create a fundraising event for them. There will be several presentations given to whatever audience shows up for it, to make them more aware of what the Red Cross actually assists with. There will be PowerPoint presentations and other technology to constantly be going throughout the fundraiser stating the purpose and what they need assistance with, along with having some of the volunteers walking around, talking to people, and to be able to answer questions. There will be room for monetary donation, along with canned goods donations, clothing donations, and blood donations as well. I will be setting it for late spring most likely, at the South Shore Park Pavilion. It is a beautiful location down by the lake front, and has a beach and play area for kids. It will be more enjoyable and memorable if it is in a really lovely location. I think this about covers it.
