I was actually surprised to find how open and honest a majority of my peers were with their own trauma or crisis events. I know we have all had our fair share of tragedy, but it felt authentic in a sense. I was pleased to realize that we all feel that we are in this safe space; able to share our experiences and allow them to help us persevere and help others. That's ultimately why we are here, isn't it?

This assignment was a great refresher on the common (and some uncommon) disorders that are frequently referenced with patients. My biggest takeaway from this assignment was the amount of resources and explanations there are for individuals seeking help, or families and friends trying to understand. I came across numerous videos, charts, and graphics that compared the disorders or explained the common symptoms and treatments for those who may not understand.

This was certainly an eye-opener. I have never heard of such atrocities and trauma enacted on a young boy. I learned a lot about how far people will go to cause grief or trauma to others and how this affects them and those around them. There is a network of organizations and individuals that are meant to be utilized to prevent and support those who experience adverse childhood experiences and ensure that they have the proper resources as they grow older. I enjoyed the interaction on other topics of trauma with my peers, it really brought the class together and gave us all a greater understanding of the different types of grief and trauma.

I actually really needed this program during this time. Many of my students are located in Los Angeles, and recently fires have taken over thousands of homes and killed hundreds of people. I did my best to gather as many resources as I could for my students, but this training really helped me understand how I can be present and offer proper support to those affected. I think this is a training that all professionals in the field should complete because emergency or disaster can strike at any moment.

I felt like I was given an amazing group for this project. Everyone communicated what they wanted to see and things they felt were missing or needed for the presentation. We all shared our own experiences and I felt like this was a project we each really cared about and went the extra mile for. Something specific that I took away from the assignment was the emphasis of cultural competency on addiction treatment and how addiction transcends race, religion, and age.

I was a bit unsure of this assignment initially, but once I began highlighting I thought it was rather interesting. Dissecting the case on paper versus listening and evaluating really allowed me to hone in on each need or dilemma that the family, particularly the son Steven, was encountering. Upon completion, the evaluation was less overwhelming because of the separation of needs into categories, allowing me to properly create a follow up plan for Steven and his family.
