This quote helps with the picture in that Jeannette finally comes to realize the reality of her life and she has had enough. Throughout her entire life, she has believed in the fallacious words of her father ranging from his lies about the Glass Castle and him never letting them down. This quote represents theme of Chaos and Order and the picture perfectly. Throughout the entire book, there is a constant power struggle between the free-spirited Rex and Rose Mary and Lori, Brian, and Jeannette. While Rex and Rose Mary want to live a life of freedom and wandering wherever they land, their kids cannot keep up with them. So they all left. So, as shown in the New York arc of the story, even after the kids found their own sense of belonging, the parents have found theirs a long, long time ago.
