Junot Diez’s father finally finds a place to sleep. He worked hard to pay for his new, expensive rent, which allows him to only sleep on a floor, and to send money to his family back home. After talking with a friendly neighbor, he realizes he is being cheated. His father is paying for his rent as well as his roommate’s. However, the friendly neighbor helped him get out of an unfair living situation and save lots of money.

He was alone in New York, away from his family and had little to no friends. He was an outsider, he wasn’t familiar with the language and he was struggling to send money back to his family. Being invited to a party with other Dominicans allowed Junot Diaz’s father to feel welcome and comfortable away from his family. Although the Dominican is far from New York, he felt at home.

When Junot Diaz’s father was traveling, he had little money and no communications. He was experiencing several complications while in New York, no family, no friends, no money, and barely a place to sleep at night. When the truck drivers, out of the goodness of there heart, offered him a ride, he saw the good in humanity, which he had earlier lost.
