Plate Tectonics is a theory that states that the planet is broken up into different plates on the crust of the planet. this theory is used to explain the continental drift. According to famous Geographers such as J. Tuzo Wilson and Alfred Weneger almost all of the earths land mass was once part of one super continent called Pangaea. Several hundred million years ago, the land broke apart into continents we have today.

The Theory of Continental Drift and Plate Tectonics is largely supported by the discovery of fossils of land creatures oceans apart. this would suggest that the two land masses were once one large land mass. It is also supported by the fact that most of the worlds land could fit together like a jigsaw puzzle, clearly seen in South America and Africa. Evidence also suggests that there have been many more super-continents throughout the history of the world.

The Continental Drift happened, in short, because of convection currents. Lava from the earths mantle is pushed up through the crust. When the lava reaches the earths ocean, it cools, hardens, and becomes rock. The new rock created pushes the plates apart, causing land to spread away from other pieces of land

"Ring of Fire" refers to an area in the pacific ocean with the worlds highest amount of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Over 90% of eruptions and 81% of earthquakes happen within the ring. This is because of the Fault Lines (edges of tectonic plates) located throughout that area. The fault lines can also contribute to earthquakes in other areas, such as California, which sits on the famous San Andreas Fault.

Even in areas outside the Ring of Fire. earthquakes are mainly caused by plates on the earth's crust colliding. Since most of the worlds fault lines are at sea, this can lead to other natural disasters, such as tsunamis. A lot of these areas known for earthquakes and tsunamis, including the ring of fire, are called Subduction Zones. this areas mark the edges of tectonic plates notorious for colliding and causing natural disasters. Many Earthquakes are also caused by Transform Boundaries, which are places where tectonic plates slide past each other. most of these areas are locates at the ocean floor and can cause earthquakes and tsunamis in the same way as the Ring of Fire

Since the planet, according to geographical and geological research, both old and recent, is on a constant cycle of destruction over hundreds of millions of years, it is easy to infer what will happen to the planer in the future. the land of the planet, in the past, has formed a super-continent, broken apart, and reformed into a new super-continent. This cycle seems endless and is impossible to stop. During the time of super-continents reforming, an enormous amount of natural disasters occur, which has previously killed of most of the life on the planet. since the pates on the planet are moving about an inch per year, it is easy to say that in a few hundred million years, a new super-continent will reform, and most of the human race will likely be wiped out.
