The Hoover Dam was built between 1931-1935. Contractors were given seven-years to finish the project from the start date of April 20, 1931. Additionally the first concrete for the dam wasn't actually placed until June 6, 1933 and the last concrete placement for the dam was on May 29, 1935 which marked the Dam's completion on that date although all of the features to the dam weren't officially finalized until 1936.

As the Western parts of the U.S. began to populate along came settlers who also farmed. These settlers began to create water systems from the Colorado River to help irrigate their agriculture in the dry arid desert landscape in which they settled but the Colorado River would flood so to help with this the Hoover Dam was built with the goals and purposes of creating Electricity, and as well as Controlling Erosion and Floods (The Living New Deal, n.d.) in the area for the surrounding communities and states.

As an outcome, the building of the Dam stimulated the economy during the Great Depression by creating thousands of jobs for workers that came from all over the country. Boulder City was birthed because at the time of the construction there needed to be housing for government workers as well as the contractor workers. (The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, 2015). Las Vegas was too far so the city of Boulder City, Nevada was established in 1928 (Boulder City Nevada, 2012)

The photo below (The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, 2021) which you can click on to enlarge is a present day view of The Hoover Dam which shows it's magnitude as an American symbol from the New Era.

The impacts of The Hoover Dam were immense. Aside from the information stated in the Goals, Purposes, and Outcomes section; The Hoover Dam also helped shape the American South-West. The major cities and communities of that region in the U.S. would not be able to survive at their capacities without supplies of water and energy that is produced by The Hoover Dam.

The construction of The Hoover Dam also created the first and largest national recreation area of the U.S. (The U.S. National Park Service , 2021). The Lake Mead National Recreation Area can be taken into perspective with the following video (The U.S. National Park Service, 2019):
