President Woodrow Wilson proposed the League of Nations to ensure that peace and unity was preserved at all times and to also help prevent conflict before war broke out. Wilson proposed this because he knew that if we had an orgnizaation that was able to settle matters and try to protect peace, then no nation or the world would have to risk its people, power, etc to fight. Even more, Wilson believed that the Monroe Doc. and such American followings and beliefs would die off if they joined the LON so they wanted to maintain what they have. Also, Wilson wanted to ensure that nations had a common thing that brought them togethor and ensured peace so he proposed the LON.

The US didn't join the League of Nations because it would mean that the US wasn't an independent, self-governing country, which is one of the US' principles.Joining the League of Nations meant that the US was no longer on its own and had to rely and unite with different countries which would get them entangled with foreign affairs.

The USA was wrong in not joining the League of Nations for many reasons. Why aim to create peace and unity and motivate other countries to join but you (USA) chooses not to join? The USA itself was involved in the war, and would be too in WW2, and contributed to the damage occuring in some ways, so it seems wrong for the USA to not want to be involved in a treaty where they can perservere peace and unity. This comes to show that yes, the USA wants to self rule, but it shows that they still believe that their own goverment is the right goverment and coming togethor with other countries would negativly impact their democracy.

Opponents were incorrect to oppose the League of Nations because the whole point of the LON was to bring countries in unison and bring peace. The focus of the LON was to prevent wars and eliminate competition between countries. Since opponents opposed it, we have not been at peace and in unison. For example, the situation with Russia that is going on today. Yes, it may have meant that countries had to now rely on each other and come together and work as one. However, their independence was not the target.
