Rachel Lears, Robin Blotnik, Sarah Olson

Knock Down The House (2019), created by Rachel Lears, Robin Blotnik, and Sarah Olson, argues that grassroots campaigns for working-class political candidates are more deserving of a political win than corporate-funded career politicians. The filmmakers appeal to ethos through their footage of practiced political organizers advising the new candidates, pathos through the stories of each candidate's nonpolitical life, and logos through statistics and bad facts about incumbents in order to prompt politically aware liberal-leaning Americans to support grassroots campaigns.

Knock Down The House follows four grassroots political campaigns attempting to upset long-standing incumbent politicians in their respective districts. Each working-class candidate has experienced the failures of the American government and will fight to change it. The filmmakers show the inception of the four campaigns, some decisive moments, challenges they face, and the culmination of their political trials.

Filmmaker: Vitaly Mansky
Thesis: The North Korean Government manipulates and controls their society and education system, forcing their people to act and think a certain way beginning in their childhood, as shown through Mansky’s use of pathos (still shots on a single subject), his inclusion of certain footage and scenes, and text explanation boxes that reveal the plot throughout the film.
Summary: Under the Sun is a documentary that works to expose the truths behind the modern North Korean society. Originally scripted by the North Korean Government as a propoganda film to reveal their strict, communist regime, Mansky instead proves that North Korean society is based the suppression of its people and the brainwashing of their kids through education, as accomplished through his editing of the film. The documentary follows a young girl by the name of Lee Zin-Mi and her family to reveal their experiences and lifestyles in North Korea, but is proven throughout the film that this family is yet another subject of the government's oppressive regime.
