The modern era is now often witnessing mass incarnations of different civil rights. In the case of 2015, the movement Black Lives Matter also received a similar amount of incarnation. To begin with, Black lives matter was started by a Twitter hashtag and was supported by the president of the United States at the time, Barack Obama. Black lives matter is one of many examples of the ongoing civil rights movement finding equality between all races and not receiving any racism for that matter.

Black History Month ~ 1976 - present

Black History Month honors the achievements and struggles of black people throughout history and is honored in February in the United States. Carter G. Woodson established Black History Month in 1976 after it changed from Negro History Week in 1926. President Gerald Ford first declared Black History Month to be a national holiday. It is now seen as an annual event where black people around the world celebrate together and it's supposedly a day where all races and people accept each other as humans.

The Origins & Legacy of Civil Rights ~1940s - 1960s

The Civil Rights Movement left a lasting impact that still influences society today. It cleared the path for developments in racial equality as well as greater access to jobs, education, and political representation for all races. The movement demonstrated the effectiveness of nonviolent protest and group action in bringing about significant change. It also impacted and inspired later social justice movements, such as the now well established movement of Black Lives Matter.

Martin Luther King and Non-violent resistance ~December of 1955

Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X had varied views on nonviolence and violence. Martin is popular for advocating nonviolence and was inspired by his upbringing in the black Baptist tradition. He believed in meeting violence with nonviolence and used religious and political resources to develop a militant nonviolent philosophy. Malcolm X, on the other hand, criticized the media's portrayal of Martin's perspective as normative for the African-American community. He focused on exposing covert racist violence by northern white liberals and urged blacks to reject violence in any form. Both Martin and Malcolm were assassinated at the age of thirty-nine.

Rosa Parks- an American icon - 1955

Rosa Parks, refused to give up her seat to a white man on a bus on December 1, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama. Parks Parks was found guilty and fined, but her case (State v. Rosa Parks) was appealed after three trials

The boycott continued for over a year and ended with a Supreme Court ruling declaring segregation on public buses unconstitutional on June 5, 1956.

Her actions and the boycott became a catalyst for the civil rights movement.
